I cannot recommend Max Canine highly enough – if you're struggling with your dog, they are knowledgeable, supportive, and genuinely transformative. We were really struggling with our 12-month-old Goldendoodle, Alfie. He was starting to be reactive to other dogs, extremely strong on the lead (over 35kg), and daily walks had become stressful and unenjoyable. In just one session with Emily I learned more than I have in over 7 years of being a dog owner and working with other behaviourists. Her approach is clear, calm, and incredibly effective. After just that first session, I’ve already taken Alfie on two fully controlled walks, with massively reduced reactivity to other dogs. We will definitely be booking further sessions to iron out a few other issues.
We visited Max Canine two days ago and it was really good to have a 1-2-1 with Emily to discuss the reactivity issues with our dog . This was our first visit to Max Canine and we were very impressed in the way Emily, with assistance from Mike, were able to offer excellent advice and tips on how to reduce the reactions from our dog especially when meeting other dogs and strangers. The peaceful and very scenic location of Max Canine was perfect for the 1-2-1, after which we participated in a group session with other dogs and their owners which was a great way of gaining some more tips on lead handling etc. We have already seen an improvement when out walking our dog and would certainly recommend Emily and Max Canine.
I was really struggling with Rosie’s behaviour and some difficult habits making life stressful! Emily listened and understood my needs and Rosie’s breed and how the issues could be improved. I can honestly say my life has changed for the better and I am so grateful to her. Rosie is a lot calmer in the house and the garden. I am looking forward to a face to face session next time. Thank you! Would 100% recommend
Em is the most brilliant trainer, and we are so thankful to have found her! We rescued our collie cross 2 years ago, and although myself and my partner had experience with the breed, neither of us were prepared for how complex Duke was. Duke was incredibly reactive to everything when we rescued him, and we were very naive and really had no clue how best to manage him. Em stripped it back to basics for us, and we started with learning how to get him to walk with us on lead, before progressing to being comfortable interacting with other dogs on/off lead, practising being around livestock and, Duke’s biggest trigger - cars. Her knowledge of canine behaviour is second to none, and she’s really helped us identify his signals so we can manage them before he goes, as we say, full “collie”. I think one of the biggest learnings for us wasn’t how to “fix” Duke, it was about educating ourselves and understanding the breed traits, and Duke’s behaviours in particular, so we could establish a better relationship and be the right leaders for him. Em is really straight forward, providing practical advice we can take away and build on, in safe and comfortable surroundings. We’ve been working with her for two years now, and I can honestly say it’s the best investment we’ve ever made. I feel much more confident in how to handle and work with Duke, and as a result have a much stronger bond with him. Would highly recommend!
We are truly delighted to have met Emily through the recommendation of a corgi friend who is also training with Max Canine. They speak really highly of Emily and we totally agree. It was a great pleasure meeting and working with Emily, Mike and their lovely Labrador, Girl! Pumpkin had so much fun and she definitely enjoyed the cheesy treat she got when she adapted to the training well. We did a 3-day residential training with Max Canine and it was the best training experience we've ever had. Emily went all out to understand Pumpkin's personality, characters and behaviours in different settings and environments, targeting our area of concern as well as the underlying attributes. We went to places such as the busy Caernarfon town centre and the beach with lots of social stimuli, be it from people or dogs. Emily assessed Pumpkin's behaviour in various situations and gave us great tactics to work with her, using her traits as a pastoral (herding) breed. It's never been so effective! We observed and learnt how Emily worked with Pumpkin and we put the tactics into practice. We are so pleased that we could see great improvement in such short time, which proves that the need to understand her traits and intuitions is truly essential. Emily completely opened up our minds and she helps us work with Pumpkin at ease. We feel more confident and relaxed being out with Pumpkin, knowing that we are equipped with the knowledge and strategies to work with Pumpkin. We used to be embarrassed with Pumpkin being pretty vocal when she is excited and she is hyper-active, hyper-friendly and super distracted. After the training, we are more opened about it now, knowing that many don't know that corgis are pastoral dogs, hence feel wary with her. We know now it's completely normal and we are encouraged to communicate with other dog owners to let them know in case Pumpkin goes saying hi. Nonetheless, we know being consistent is the key to Pumpkin being more moderate and we look forward to using all the training tools we learnt from Emily for her continuous improvement. We love how Emily goes above and beyond even after our training sessions. She encourages us to keep in touch with her on how Pumpkin does and if we need advice and help anytime so we can have a peace of mind. We highly recommend Max Canine for just any levels of dog training. (P/S: Pumpkin had a go at sheep herding the first time too, and she did excellent! We're not sure if she knew she was actually herding, but we were so amazed and amused watching her do her thing! =D) We can't thank you enough, Emily for this truly amazing training experience!
