Rick came to our home on one of the coldest winter days in Minnesota we’re talking -15 degrees and still showed up with a great attitude and total professionalism. He fixed our water heater efficiently and explained everything clearly along the way. Rick was very open, straightforward, and honestly a joy to have around. On top of being skilled at his job, he has an amazing sense of humor that made a stressful situation so much easier. The company he works for should know they have a true gem on their team, Rick is basically a golden retriever in human form, one of a kind. I highly recommend him to anyone needing help. Outstanding service all around!
The three people I met at McQuillan were very nice, knowledgeable, and respectful of me and my home. They did great work installing a new water heater that required moving it over a few feet and replacing gas lines to be up to code. Highly recommend!
I had an extremely bad experience with Mcquillan couple of days back being ripped off to an extent of $1700. Well more than the $ amount that I paid I strongly believe that it’s more of an integrity issue here. I had an appointment scheduled for my water heater’s temperature pressure valve slightly leaking ( water was slowly dripping from the valve) I was initially given a quote of $400 which I agreed to and signed on the agreement on an ipad. As I had a sick pet at home , I did tell the tech that I would be busy caring for the pet and asked him to let me know if there was anything needed while he started replacing the TP valve on the water heater. After about an hour , I was told the total bill is $1700 approximately. I was literally shocked and I was told that the inlet water pressure reduction valve ( valve that reduces the inlet water pressure from the city )was faulty and that had been replaced in addition to the valve on the water heater and now my bill is $1700 instead of $400. I couldn’t argue because I was about to leave for a vet appointment for my sick pet and the previous night was very stressful due to lack of sleep caring for a sick pet.The so called faulty part ( old inlet valve ) was taken by the tech so that no one can verify if that part was really faulty.I did ask if that inlet valve was very expensive and tech was cool in replying that valve is not that expensive ( may be $100-$150) but we pay for his experience and knowledge which is why the replacement job of this valve was approximately $1300 + $400 ( for the water heater) bringing the grand total to $1700. I was neither consulted nor informed about the inlet valve replacement which shot my bill up 4 times more than the original estimate. After the job was completed he said he will send me the invoice and it’s been 3 days and i didn’t get the copy of the invoice from the company yet. My home is almost a brand new home and There are extremely slim chances of that inlet valve being faulty. Even assuming it was faulty , the way in which all the events happened to bill me $1700 makes me strongly believe the fact that a part was replaced without the need for it and that too without my formal approval. Above all, if that part was really faulty , I don’t see the need for the tech to carry it with him Usually techs do ask us if we want the old part back which was not the case. During the final moments ( when the tech was about to leave) he mentioned that water pressure was very high and that he saved our pipelines from being burst with the water valve replacement. If it had been that way for months now , why did our pipes not burst until now ? Every thing seems fishy and not transparent. This is a big rip off by the company and I seriously doubt whether I will use their services again.
We had two projects completed recently and will be sure to call McQuillan again when our need for their services arises. First we had a furnace replaced. The work was professionally done. The crew was all hands on deck and diligent in completing the job in a timely manner. It looks and works great. Next we replaced an old laundry tub and the technician who arrived was able to diagnose the fix and complete the project same day. In both cases, the old units were completely removed, saving me a lot of misery trying to arrange that part. I also enjoyed the friendly and knowledgeable telephone contact when first setting up both appointments.
It was a mixed experience for me. The tech that sold me my new system was knowledgeable and was a big part of why I chose McQuillan. Unfortunately, there were problems with the install and communication after the fact. The electricians decided not to place the approximately 3 ft of conduit between my panel and the box outside not the ~$20 disconnect with no discernable markings to indicate appropriateness for the install. Instead, they cut the existing conduit back to the wall and made it appear as though the proper liquidtight conduit was in place. This left a gap where rain could easily have entered the conduit and then my panel which could have cost me thousands to replace. They also didn't have the necessary parts to finish the electrical work on the day of install and sent a completion certificate to the lender after promising to come back the next day to complete the job. I had to contact them again to have the electrician back a week later. When the electrician came back, I pointed out the issue with the conduit and he said he'd fix it. He covered it up with sealant and left without talking to me instead of doing it right. I ended up replacing the problematic wiring myself which was hardly a difficult task even with my limited experience. Besides this, they also took my old smart thermostat without consulting me and didn't respond to questions about the install after the fact. Considering the cost to complete the install, I expected higher-quality work. Perhaps my lense is tinted from the electrical issue, but some of the custom ducting they did is not exactly high quality either (offset and unsealed along seams) and they put in a janky hole for a filter slot with no holder and a cover that's just bent sheet metal. I can't recommend them for HVAC work at this point. I'd take back the job if I could. The only feedback they requested was regarding one of their installers who was actually a replacement for the first guy who had to leave early. Nobody followed-up after I pointed out concerns, so I can only assume this is the norm for them since they make no other effort to check in on things after they get paid. Update: They asked me to call them in response to this review but never called me back. I also found that the condensate tube was pinched completely closed which was a minor but annoying issue on top of everything else. Another update: The system keeps shutting down on nearly a daily basis. They won't come out to look at it for a month. It's November, so it may not be able to keep up by the time they visit.
