Mezcal is more hip than the average Mexican restaurant, but the food ultimately misses the mark. The chips trio and esquites are decent starters. As for the entrées, I’ve tried the birria tacos and the hamburguesa de pastor, which is no longer listed on the online menu. The pork itself was fine, but the concept of the dish was puzzling. It was essentially an al pastor taco served on a hamburger bun instead of a tortilla. The fries it came with were over-seasoned. The birria tacos were spicier than they should have been. This was my favorite part of the meal, though that isn’t saying much. For dessert, my wife and I shared the pan de elote (Mexican cornbread), which has also been removed from the online menu. It was so bland, we didn’t even finish it. Despite my critiques, my overall experience at Mezcal was passable. I’m hopeful the changes to the menu were made for the better. That said, there are numerous Mexican restaurants in the Metro Detroit area that are more affordable and authentic.
This is my favorite place to go to downtown Detroit for Mexican food. It is authentic. It is delicious. The food is always fresh. It is season two perfection. I have yet to be disappointed. I work in the nearby hospital community and I recommend this place to all the patients all the visitors, any guest all my coworkers I want to revisit this review to add that I went to the location in Ferndale. I ordered a nachos because someone said it was huge. It looked like mush. I and for the rating that I gave it and I will continue to go to the one in Midtown Ferndale. Please do better.
This place is so slept on and the vibes are immaculate!!! They show genuine care in the details and it is always worth it. Probably some of the best drinks in the city and the food options are actually delicious. The chicarron ribeye and the ribeye tacos go craaaazy. Its not like small pieces of steak but like someone actually cooked a ribeye and sliced it into tacos. Also server was Jose full of suggestions and good vibes. Very welcoming and me and my lady will 100000% be back.
We came for my mom's bday brunch yesterday and this was the PERFECT spot! The ambience was cute, colorful, clean, and quiet. The menu was great, my sister's got birria tacos, and a burger which they loved. Mom got keto tacos, the reason we came bc she's flourless delicious. I had the Mexican pasta with shrimp. It was fantastic! They offered a free bday shot or dessert and we went with the cake. It was such a cute festive surprise!! Coming back with the girl's sometime to try the interesting looking cocktails! Not busy at all, it's a place you can hang out awhile at... Can't recommend highly enough. Thanks for making her day! Note: Gratituity is included which we were happy to pay and then some. That girl deserved every penny and I wished it were busier for her sake. Also maps was VERY confused about where it was! I would search the shell gas station across from Savvy Sliders instead.
Good parking and great food and drinks!!!! Marcela was knowledgeable and absolutely a delight. She is such hard worker and shares her knowledge of the menu and restaurant with great joy! Salsa on point and homemade chips were delicious Beautifully decorated inside Guanajuato is the state where the family and recipes are from Alebrije are the spirit animals and there are multiple art pieces in the restaurant n Taco Alambre was delicious! We will definitely be back! They have music on Friday evenings
