I visited the Micro Center three times so far, I was interested in getting a new, Windows 11 compatible computer. The first time, I was gathering information and trying to narrow down my needs and gotta-haves. The salesman was knowledgeable, patient, and spent a lot of time with me. He showed me several alternative approaches. At no time did I feel pressured or hurried. The second time, I had made a decision on a machine I thought would fill the bill. Again, a salesman was terrific. Understood what I was going for and offered me some alternatives. I chose to stay with my selection. While my order was being prepared, a second salesman walked around the store with me and answered some questions. Check out was easy, reasonably quick, and the cashier was helpful and professional While setting up the new computer, I had some questions. I made an appointment with the Knowledge bar. When I got there, I was greeted by name. Immediately at ease, I posed my questions and got good, friendly help. My overall impression is that Micro Center is the store that for all those years long ago, we all wished Fry's would have been when it was the only alternative. For my needs in the future, to quote Arnold, "I'll be back"
I used to be their customers long time ago in Houston, Texas. Their prices is the lowest possible as the Micro Center has a policy to price match with any store online or brick and mortar. Fantastic staff members who are very helpful. Pretty organize and efficient check out process. Highly recommend to techies in Silicon Valley.
It’s nice to see a Fry’s Electronics replacement store when they went bust years ago; now with a clean store and decent materials stock that competes with Central Computers. However, they (along with Central Computers) basically charge market prices aka scalper prices for components that is already in their inventory - Micro Center is worse. This is a scalping given they already had purchased most of their inventory prior and they are simply marketing it up for more profit. You can get stuff online ie Amazon or directly from the manufacturer for cheaper without dealing with people and the BS. Patience is a virtue and saves you $$$. I ordered memory to test a system at home to debug potentially faulty hardware. I would never pay scalper prices. Note that with Ubiquiti items they charge more than ordering it directly from UI store including with shipping. TL/DR: Order from Micro Center if you need something in a pinch at premium prices. They do have deals/discounts, but you gotta look out for those. The checkout/return process could use improvement and overhaul. Sometimes it’s fast with more staff, but have seen the line backed up when there is only 2 people running the registers. 2 out of 5 stars rating as it’s nice to see a local electronics retailer. It’s not 5 stars due to business practices and inflated prices. I see Micro Center eventually going the way of the dodo. Updated for scalping clarity and that many components and merchandise has gone up significantly since this review in November 2025.
I used to love Fry's (much to my wife's and my wallet's dismay) and was very sad when they went under. When I heard Microcenter was not only (finally)coming to CA, but to the SF Bay, I was STOKED! As soon as I walked in, I renamed it in my head; From Microcenter to Nerdvana!! This place is famous in the online community electronics for having stellar stock variety, prices, deals, and service/support. It's all true! I've wanted a 3D printer for YEARS. The associate that helped me was outstanding! He walked me through all my questions and more - he even helped me get a better deal than what was advertised! 6/5 stars from me! The only reasons I won't go back super often is the distance from Solano county and how much money I'd spend there. If it wasn't for that, I'd go there once or twice a week for life!!
I visited Micro Center for the first time today, and while it’s a bit of a drive for me, it was absolutely worth it. Sure, you can find just about everything online these days, but if you’re like me, you want to see the products firsthand and have the option to take them home right away. With shipping delays becoming more and more common, it’s nice knowing I can just make the trip and get what I need the same day. When Fry’s closed, it was a sad day, but honestly, Micro Center is better in a lot of ways. It may not be quite as large, but that’s because they don’t waste space on giant TVs and kitchen appliances. Instead, the store is filled with what electronics enthusiasts actually want, and the selection is excellent. My son recently picked up a 3D printer for me here and told me they had dozens of models from multiple brands. Today I went to check out another one I had my eye on, and he wasn’t exaggerating—there were plenty of top brands, tons of filament, and even a dozen display printers running so you could see them in action. The staff experience was a bit mixed. The cashier was very friendly, and the sales associate in the 3D printer department was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. On the other hand, I noticed some team members in other areas seemed more interested in chatting with each other than helping customers. That said, it didn’t really cause a problem since there were plenty of employees on the floor if you needed assistance. Overall, I would highly recommend Micro Center to any electronics enthusiast. Let’s support brick-and-mortar stores—because not all of us want to shop online.
