I'm sharing my warranty experience with Minors comparing to that of Steins. I purchased an Azurri Blue Satin Hibiscus a year ago in June from Minors. I was told when I checked out the tree was under a one year warranty so hold on to my receipt and warranty. Which I did! Sadly the tree did not make it. I brought the entire tree in (with my warranty.) I was greeted very friendly by the people at the checkout counter and they directed me to the man in "the shack." I could tell right away this wasn't going to be a pleasant experience. The man was not friendly at all! He took a look at the tree, took my warranty and began doing paperwork. At one point he stopped and said: "This tree isn't under warranty." I was shocked. I told him when I purchased the tree they gave me this warranty and told me the tree was under warranty for one year. He told me again I had to learn to read my receipts better and pointed at a little #about the size of a . then told me to follow it down where it says that this was only warranty till November." I asked him:" How do you know that a tree is going to make it in November?" Obviously he himself thought the tree was warrantied because he had started to do the paperwork. So why would a customer who has been told it's under warranty possibly analyze a # mark? He again told me: "Well you have to learn to read your receipts better." I could tell this was a no-win situation, so I walked away. Not a happy customer at all! I have always loved Minors and have shopped there for years. But this put a bad taste in my mouth. Believe me, I have shared this experience with many people! And I like to check out reviews so I wanted to share my experience with others. I had purchased 2 butterfly bushes from Steins. Sadly they did not make survive (it was a rough year for plants) I took the two butterfly bushes back to Steins. I was greeted very warmly. They took a look at the bushes directed me to the customer service desk. And very willingly and friendly gave me credit. Which I immediately used. And have been back many times since. I have not been back to Minors.
My Green Mountain Sugar Maple is sprouting leaves. I was worried it would not make it through its first winter in my yard. But it looks very healthy. I followed the directions given to me by Minor's Garden Center In Milwaukee to the tee and it looks like it paid off.
This place us amazing. Its the best plant shop in the city...like steins...home depot and meijer had a baby and produced this place.
After multiple frustrating issues with this establishment today was the last straw and they're getting a bad review from me. I've probably bought $3000 worth of plants/trees here in the last year and they refuse to replace a $15 perennial. I bought 4 lavender plants plus an assortment of other perennials 3 weeks ago. Within a few days of bringing them home, one of the lavender plants started looking very bad. I put it in the ground with the rest of them (same spot, same care, same soil, same everything) thinking it would perk up. All the other lavender plants (and other perennials) are looking great, but this one continued to go down hill. It's completely dead now less than 3 weeks after purchasing it. Minors refuses to provide a replacement. In my opinion this was a dud plant to begin with as there's no other reason one plant would die, but the other 3 lavender plants, and all other perennials, are fine. I told the manager (Mike) I'd like an exchange and he said no, so I said fine, I'd leave a bad review. So here you go. Your bad review, MIKE. I don't care what your perennial warranty is. My receipt says you don't take returns on "sale items, clearance items, and annuals". No mention of perennials. This was a new plant, not over wintered, and I had it for less than a week before it started looking sick. This is NOT ACCEPTABLE. Additionally, the staff here is incredibly hit or miss. A few we're very friendly, others were incredibly rude. Don't bother trying to call in May or June. They'll ignore the phone and in the off chance they answer, they'll put you on hold and never come back. They value contractors, not retail customers. When I ordered trees they promised us a date for pick up. The trees weren't ready when we arrived (30 minute drive). We rescheduled without complaining and feeling bad because they seemed busy; however, upon our return on the second scheduled pick up date the trees STILL weren't ready. We had to waste half a day driving around until they had our order ready. My one star is for their good prices on trees.
Their plants are always beautiful and healthy. While we've had issues with the health of plants from other stores, we've never had that issue from here. Lovely greenhouse, and pots/planter selection is bigger than most. We also always buy our sand box sand and firewood from here.
