Stopped to shop at Mitsuwa Marketplace to buy frozen onagi (Japanese freshwater eel) to make roll eggs today. I haven’t been here for a few years and everything is still the same and the place is clean and organized. I used to get their salmon bento box at the food court for lunch. I didn’t get that today as the size of the grilled salmon is now smaller than before. I bought many freshly made side dishes (pickled radish, gyoza, etc.) and the prices were reasonable. Mitsuwa has Asian groceries, wine, beers, cosmetic products, collectible toys, freshly made crepes and mochi, souvenir shop, snacks and other grocery items. There are two Japanese restaurants inside, Musashiya Japanese and Hokkaido Ramen Santouka. Food court has hot, cold prepared foods and fresh sushi. Parking can be a little challenging and the spaces are narrow and limited. Overall, you can get Japanese groceries, food and various specialty Japanese products all in one place.
This is a great grocery story to find all the ingredients you need for Japanese cuisine! Moreover, there are a few restaurants and ready to go food. I love to get some rice balls every time i come here!
Mitsuwa Marketplace is a must-visit if you love Japanese food and culture! The store has an amazing selection of authentic Japanese groceries, snacks, and specialty items you won’t find anywhere else. The food court is the highlight—Santouka Ramen, Musashiya’s katsudon, and the crepe stand are all fantastic. Everything tastes fresh and authentic, just like in Japan. I also love browsing the aisles for unique drinks like Gokuri grapefruit and Japanese sweets. The atmosphere is clean and organized, and the staff is friendly. Parking can get crowded on weekends, so I recommend visiting on weekdays if possible. If you’re in San Diego and craving Japanese flavors, Mitsuwa is the place to go!
Decent Mitsuwa, one ofnthe smaller ones. Food court was small and could use nore Ac. Had ramen and was sweating. Ramen was ok, over price for portion and could go elsewhere for service and better ramen.
Love coming to Mitsuwa. They always have unique Japanese stands, a crepe place, and towards the back it has a store that sells anime, pokemon , and hello kitty stuff. Come here at least once a week for ramens and snacks. When I was there earlier today I found out it is the last day the Okabe sweet shop is in San Diego and won’t be back till next Summer, so I bought some strawberry daifuku and a bunch of Sakura mochi from them. The strawberry daifuku was okay, but the Sakura mochi was super good!! It’s made with pink sticky rice with red bean in the center. It’s not super sweet . Even my dog love it!!
