Fascinating museum for kinds of art-appreciaters. Many different exhibits and mediums. Found free street parking across the street a few blocks away. We were pleasantly surprised to visit on a day when the museum was open to the public for free. Second Sunday and third Thursday of every month! There were many people inside the museum on a Sunday afternoon yet it didn’t feel crowded due to the large rooms and open spaces. There was also a live music event happening next to the gift shop. Highly recommend visiting if you’re spending the day in La Jolla and looking for something to do.

I really enjoyed the new experience on a different level of art. Learning about the value light and darkness as mediums can add to a piece. One art piece that caught my eye is Sandy Rodriguez's Joshua Tree created on a very special canvas made of amate paper. Which paper is handmade in Puebla, Mexico. I watched some videos on YouTube to learn about how this paper is made. The craftsmanship is creative, original, inspirational, etc... I appreciate the artist using this medium to create a very exquisite work of art. I also enjoyed the floating bowls and glass cups in a pool of water providing the viewers and listeners with a musical composition based on the tonal properties of everyday objects in the life of an artist, as stated in the description. Hence take your time when you get to this exhibit.

This was my first visit. I live in San Diego, so admission was $20. Children are free. You can check the admission fee at the reception desk. The exterior is small, but the interior is spacious and has a variety of contemporary art works on display, which I enjoyed. There is also a courtyard, and the view of La Jolla is truly beautiful. The best part is that even if you go outside, you can come back in before the entrance closes. Parking is street parking only.

This was a great gallery. They had a lot of really cool pieces. When I visited, the feature exhibit was of works by Alex Katz. I hadn't heard of him but he had some good works. The rotating permanent collection was good too.
