As an adult student I was a little unsure about taking music lessons, but Music House has been a friendly and welcoming environment for all ages and skill levels. The teachers do a great job of meeting you where you’re at skill-wise and helping you meet your music-focused goals. The best part of the experience is the opportunity to play music with fellow musicians – both highly skilled instructors and fellow adult music students.

I won’t go into all the details, but long story short, after 2 months of lessons, we asked our daughter’s piano instructor, Mr Olsen, how she’s doing and if she should continue lessons because she was a little young. He confidently told us yes and encouraged additional practice at home; he even moved her to the next lesson book! A week later we get an email from the director stating her teacher, Mr Olsen, said she shouldn’t continue (so he literally lied to our faces). When I bring up the clearly discrepant messages, she tells us they instruct the teachers to not tell you the truth if you ask them. Again, I’m not going to get into all of it but our daughter loves piano and asks to play at home almost daily. We’ve happily already found a different teacher elsewhere. I would strongly encourage you look elsewhere for music lessons as I have proof in my email from the director herself, Rachel Cross, admitting the teachers are not going to be honest with you even when you check in and talk about your child’s progress with them. It was a sad conversation to have to tell my daughter Mr Olsen is refusing to teach her anymore, but we turned it into a healthy conversation about how there are some adults you can’t trust nor depend on. Strongly recommend you stay away.

Started lessons here after nearly 30 years' without. I wanted to brush up on theory that I had avoided learning earlier in my playing, and I wanted to study Cumbia and Chicha styles, in particular. Also got our kid in drum lessons. We're a few months in now, and we're both doing great. Have to give particular thanks to Rafael and Frazier for continuing to push us to new levels. Jerad has been fantastic support for making sure we're connecting with all the resources available and in general keeping up with our needs. While we've only taken lessons at Lenexa, we've had great conversations/connections/jams with the greater community. All staff we've interacted with have been encouraging and quite helpful. Really effective methods for many learning types and ages, as well as real engagement in jamming and gigging. I would highly recommend checking out Music House if you want to learn an instrument or brush up.

We’ve been attending Music House for nearly 3 years now and could not be happier. The staff are incredibly kind and knowledgeable and they put the growth and experience of the students (both kids and adults first). I am so glad our son is learning here and is now playing in a band and continuing to grow!

We love Music House! Our son has done a summer camp, has had lessons with two different instructors, both wonderful, and currently Ms. Pritchard is doing great work teaching him to read music as well as getting him excited about playing! So grateful that Overland Park has access to Music House and the community it has cultivated to get students engaged in music!
