An absolutely gorgeous hotel set in extensive grounds with a spa. The rooms are great, the staff are fantastic and who can resist buying their cuddly highland cow! Not us. The hotel gets 4 stars for their highly disappointing vegetarian options for lunch/dinner. Tomato pasta or puy lentils? Breakfast was great and extensive with some good vegetarian sausages and black pudding. Enjoyed all the other options too. Would recommend staying here but dine out in the evenings if you don’t eat meat.
While we were initially impressed that the hotel had our dogs' names on file and provided high-quality amenities (beds, bowls, and fancy treats), the actual stay at Norton House was far from the "luxury" experience advertised. We felt "banished" to an undesirable, dated, and worn part of the hotel (room 110). The heating system was baffling. Most concerningly, we found two pieces of underwear from previous occupants in our room, which calls the housekeeping standards into serious question. While the room was near a fire exit (convenient for quick dog toilet breaks), it was a nightmare for dog owners. The heavy fire door slammed constantly, triggering our dogs. Furthermore, we were adjacent to a staff supplies cupboard. Staff congregated there to chat loudly starting at 7:00 AM and continued throughout the day. This constant traffic kept our dogs in a state of agitation and barking throughout the stay. For a hotel that markets itself as dog-friendly, the grounds were poorly maintained. There was dog waste littered across the walking trails and the designated dog waste bin was overflowing. Airport nearby so quite a lot of overhead noise. We decided to dine at the hotel on our second night. Despite a high number of staff, service was incredibly slow; we waited 45 minutes for a table and over an hour for food. When our food finally arrived we were impressed. It was perfectly cooked and I finally thought that we found a highlight to this mediocre hotel stay. But it was all soured by hearing a staff member exit the kitchen and exclaim to the team that they had "caught a mouse” mid meal. The "dog-friendly" perks (treats/names) are a lovely touch, but they don't make up for poor cleanliness, a loud environment, and a lack of basic maintenance. We left feeling like second-class guests because we had pets. We booked through booking.com and have yet to be prompted for a review there which feels sus.
My partner and I enjoyed a relaxing day at the luxurious Norton House Hotel & Spa before gearing up to go back to work, treating ourselves to incredible massage treatments and sweating away any stresses in the sauna and steam rooms. They do an awfully tasty flat white, too! Staff were super friendly and helpful. A beautiful place to unwind, for a few hours or the day. Love your moss wall!
We had the pleasure of staying at Norton House to celebrate Hogmanay 2025 and welcome in the New Year, and the experience was truly memorable from start to finish. Check-in was flawless and genuinely welcoming, setting the tone for a wonderful stay. The staff throughout were attentive, friendly and professional, always present without ever being intrusive. On arriving at our room, we were delighted to find an incredible Hogmanay hamper waiting for us. This thoughtful touch was very much appreciated and we are looking forward to enjoying all the traditional Scottish treats it included. Dinner was outstanding. We enjoyed a beautifully cooked Chateaubriand steak paired with red wine and champagne, all served with impeccable care and attention. Families are clearly well considered here too, with a varied and smart children’s menu and fun mocktails that made the experience special for younger guests. The dinner service was exceptional, relaxed yet refined. Later, the atmosphere in the pub was simply perfect, with a guitarist softly crooning in the background, creating a soulful and deeply relaxing end to the evening. Norton House delivered a Hogmanay celebration that felt both special and effortless. A wonderful place to mark such an occasion, and we would happily return.
We chose this hotel because it’s dog friendly and of course it looks lovely. We were happy with the room, our dog also got her own bed, bowls and some treats. The staff were really nice and helpful especially David and the waiters. Breakfast was fantastic, such lovely food. Just the drinks and main menu were a bit on a pricey side. It is approx. 30-40 minutes drive to Edinburgh but on the other hand it’s a quiet area.
