I'm truly disheartened to write this review after trusting Oakland Vet with my Shih Tzu's care for nearly a decade. Despite bringing her in repeatedly for persistent blistered toes, inflamed ears, and chronic eye issues, the care provided by Dr. Dorsey and Dr. Hart was consistently surface level. Each visit resulted in the same treatment: ointments and antibiotics, which temporarily helped but never addressed the root cause. I repeatedly expressed concerns as her condition worsened, yet no proactive steps were taken to investigate further. Her ears remained severely inflamed until she eventually became deaf. Her toes were consistently blistered, causing her pain, and her right eye was always bloodshot and uncomfortable. The vet prescribed ointments that never worked, and her vision ultimately deteriorated completely. Throughout these years, we were never once referred to a specialist for her chronic conditions. In 2023, we finally switched to Providence Veterinary Hospital in Alameda, and the difference in care was staggering. During our first visit, the vet immediately suspected a food allergy and referred us to a dermatology specialist. We removed chicken and beef from her diet, and within weeks, the blisters and ear inflammation stopped. For years, this simple dietary change had been overlooked. The new vet also diagnosed her with dry eye, prescribing daily tear supplements and referring us to an ophthalmologist--a specialist we never even knew existed for pets. Sadly, these crucial discoveries came too late. The years of untreated inflammation had already left her deaf and her vision impaired. It's heartbreaking to know that had we received this level of thorough care sooner, her quality of life could have been significantly better. I don't write this review lightly, but I feel compelled to warn others. Oakland Vet, despite its high rating, lacks the proactive, detailed care pets need--especially when symptoms persist. The team at Providence went above and beyond, and while their services are more expensive, the quality of care is unparalleled. I wish I had trusted my instincts and sought a second opinion earlier. My Shih Tzu gave us so much love, and it pains me to know she endured unnecessary discomfort because of missed diagnoses and reactive care. If your pet has ongoing issues, don't hesitate to seek a second opinion--it could make all the difference. Sadly, our beloved Shih Tzu passed away in 2024 at the age of 17. While her loss is heartbreaking, we find comfort knowing we gave her the best final two years with the compassionate care at Providence Vet in Alameda.
Dr. Dorsey and Dr. Hart are the nicest, kindest, most professional veterinarians. They have nursed and helped me through four cats. I love their office staff. They try to get appointments for any of my fur babies, and when one of them passed away, the office gave a donation to a cat illness research. I can't say enough about how much I appreciate all their service and care for my pets. They are so reassuring and when the time comes for… Again, they are empathetic and sympathetic.
My cat Izzy and I saw Dr. Hart there for 15 years and she was great. My closest and dearest friend recently went into hospice with pancreatic cancer stage 4. Because of emotional stress I forgot to come back with my card as I forgot it. And for the same reason I completely forgot I owed them $105.00. Dr. Dorsey wrote me a 2 sentence note kicking me out of their service. After 15 years of being on time and never before having any discrepancies with payment. I wrote her a letter explaining that I did then make the payment and how my sweet cat Izzy loves Dr. Hart and apologizing for the mistake, she never got back to me. I think this is just what I DON"T want in a vet. Zero trust even after a perfect track record of payment for 15 years, and kicking us out with no compassion that sometimes one makes a mistake. Dr. Dorsey should not be practicing with animals. She is cold, sarcastic, unforgiving and only cares about the $ her business can bring her. Awful. Just absolutely horrible.
If I could rate a zero I would. My Newfoundland Bouncer has been a patient since he was 8 weeks, he’s now almost 9. So I’ve been going consistently for 10 years, spent a lot of money. I had a few questionable visits & staff mistakes but overall I was pleased with the services. The staff was always apologetic when any mistakes were made. But on June 22, 2022 things took a disappointing turn. Hurtful quite frankly. The new staff is rude. After Bouncer’s boarding facility notified me he needed a vaccine update, I called his vet, this vet for a drop in. I was told to come in during a set time frame so I rearranged my work day, including critical meetings. I arrived and was told the receptionist had made a mistake & to seek service elsewhere. I was in shock because I had received decent customer service in the past, so I said I’d wait for the doctor who knew me. I was told she was prepping for surgery so I opted to wait for a fair resolution. I was then met with more aggression & told to “leave the premises” as if I were a criminal. I never yelled or used profanity. I was simply firm on my stance that they should accommodate because it was their mistake. I tried to get in for an annual visit but was always told they were short handed due to Covid. I eventually left in total shock after I asked for a print out of the 10 years of services rendered. I had decided I wasn’t going back. Yesterday I received a letter, I thought it was going to be an apology, but instead it was the opposite, see pic. I took the letter as confirmation & pray no one else experiences the horrible service I did. Ralonda Cunningham
Absolutely a great place to bring your animals. Having been a previous client, I am able to bring my new dog Sebastian in with no hassles. Lucky to have them as my Vet. 5 stars without a doubt.
