Recently I didn't have the $20 copay for an emergency visit to my daughter's pediatrician. She had had a fever of 102 for over 24 hours. I asked the billing manager to bill me. We were turned away and told it was my insurance policy's policy. I was horrified. I was told to go to the ER. The ER treated her for a high fever as they're supposed to do. Less than a week later, we were in the ER again because my daughter had a terrible cough and I couldn't follow up with my daughter's provider because they already set the precedent that my daughter's health was worth $20. She was diagnosed with pneumonia. Had her pediatrician monitored her health, we could have avoided pneumonia...for $20. When pediatrician's office manager (Evelyn) called me to remind of my daughter's annual exam, I told her about what happened was undignified and no provider would be okay with that. This office is privately own. I never asked for the $20 fee to be waved as the office manager said; I corrected her immediately. The office manager said she didn't turn me away, it was the billing manager. The office manager told me that I should have stayed and demanded for my child to be seen even though she had had a fever of 102 for over 24 hours and my focus was to get her immediate care instead of fighting with gatekeeping office personnel. I told her that her job is to keep the patients happy, keep them coming in, and that is what the provider partners expect of her. She manages all the workings of the office and the doctors tend to the patients. Then office manager had the gall to ask me to reconsider staying a patient with them even though their actions said that my daughter's health is worth $20. My daughter is old enough to "hear" that message loud and clear. No we will not return to your office. Disgusting and shameful medical practice allowing insurance companies deciding when and how established patients get to receive medical care. Shame on the doctor's front office personnel and shame on the insurance company. So now instead of paying the $20 at my next paycheck, I was forced to inccur ER bills for something that could have been managed in a doctor's office...$20. I am sad to leave an amazing physician, Dr Lococo; we've been with her for nearly 5 years and I never once asked for a handout as the office manager insinuated. But I will NOT take my child to a doctor in which the billing manager has control over whether my sick child gets treatment at her pediatrician and the office manager takes no responsibility for the practice of a child's health bing worth a $20 copay. Final thoughts: don't go there if your child might get sick and you're in a rock and hard place financially before the holidays when the insurance companies are graping the public while executives get richer and office personnel will uphold this praxtice by gatekeeping healthcare for sick kids. Shame on you. If you're lucky and your kid never gets sick, well then go there...it's covered under insurance and the billing manager can't gatekeep access to Healthcare because insurance covers well visits.
Dr. Day is wonderful. She’s incredibly smart, great at listening to my child’s concerns, and a wonderful physician all around.
I want to start by saying that Dr. LoCoco is amazing she always took her time in answering all of our questions. I had been going here for 4 years approximately. Now with my second child it has been such a nerve wrecking experience because of the new staff at the front desk. I don’t know her name since she never states it when picking up the phone or in person but she’s a white/ginger lady who started working there not too long ago maybe a year. She is one of the rudest front desk/customer service employee I’ve ever met. She always had an attitude (not sure if it was only towards us) faked smile when giving rude answers etc. I couldn’t make it to an appointment on October 2nd and I called October 1st to reschedule. I knew it was her because of the tone she used every single time. She “rescheduled” me for October 17th. Well she never actually did it and when I called back on October 17th since I hadn’t gotten an online check in it was her again, she said we were a no show and that she never gave us that appointment. I got a letter even after I told her I had called to reschedule stating we were a no show and that next time we would stop being patients at the facility. Maybe that’s exactly what she was trying to do anyway. But who cares I had already made the decision to leave because I hate having to deal with people like her who shouldn’t be working customer service especially not at a kids place. The nurses and doctors are great so it’s sad to see people like this being the face of their company. I will post the screenshot of the call where we rescheduled the day before.
Front desk associate with black hair and glasses is ridiculous. If I had time to listen to voicemails and respond right away, I would, I don’t. I don’t need you to ask me if I heard the voicemails you left me, specially if I had called in the morning BECAUSE of the voicemails you left, have the discussion with me when I have time to answer or face to face. I don’t need you to remind me 3xs in 30 seconds you left a voicemail, when I had called prior to appointment in regard of your voicemails.
Our family loves Dr James Padrez, great pediatrician! 5 star review for him. We’ve been going to him for over 20 years now and his care is superb. Although a lot has changed over the years with the administration… The front office staff definitely could use some TLC and some training in customer service. Following up with your patients is absolutely imperative if you want to keep them in your practice. Also discussing fees aggressively when a patient walks in could be done with a bit of grace. Grace and attitude go a long way. Current “new” phone system is awful…. If I were a “new patient” I would not wait in a cue for over a hour to make an appointment. This type of service makes the professionals look bad and the patient feel like another number in line. Not good. Some friendly advice, you may want to switch back to the other phone system you had. Thank you Dr Padrez for always taking such great care of our children :)
