A very nice short hike. Interesting rock formations as well. There are plenty of good lake views
Such a cool place with hiking trails and even rock climbing. They have 85 different routes most are easy accessible from the top. It’s all top roping and they do not allow free climbing. I went with 20 yards of webbing and 80 m rope a ATC couple harnesses couple locking beaners and that’s all I needed. It would be a good idea to bring some carpet or tarp for the sharp edges. Huge selection of routes everything is really easy to really hard. There is basically no hike because the parking lot is right at the top the climbs. There is a company that offers guiding. I would suggest calling the state park to get information. The state park charges seven bucks per person and makes you sign a release waiver, which was unique for us coming from Colorado.
I didn’t do the full hike because I biked here from my campground. At the start of the trail is picnic tables, washrooms and parking spaces. No where to secure your bike so I used a tree. There’s bbq pits if you wanna have some grub with the family. The trail is well groomed and clearly marked. There are offshoots though, but they seem to end up in the same spaces. Very rocky and requires good shoes with ankle support and paying attention. No critters other than dragon flies and birds. Lots of webs. Loved the cave aspect. Would be a fantastic full hike to experience. Did not realize Texas had this hidden gem.
Very nice part of Mineral Wells State Park. It is a short walk from the parking lot to the rock climbing area. There is an awesome view from the stairs. The stairs are fairly easy to navigate but are not all the same width or height. If you have issues with walking they might be tricky. Once you are at the bottom it is a maze like walk around. We don't climb so I can't speak to the challenge of climbing here.
My wife and I are not rock climbers, so all we did was explore the area and take pictures. It it a very interesting geological place and it was fun to look at. Based on the size of the parking areas, I would assume many people come to this place on weekends and holidays. I was very impressed how clean the area is kept. I suspect that the people who use this location are doing a good job of picking up after themselves.
