Joe and his team are phenomenal! I was first introduced to olympic lifting through crossfit and wanted to improve my technique. I started in the olympic lifting class with Coach Jessica. She watches everyone in her class very closely (I'm convinced she has eyes on the back of her head!). She provides great feedback and cues to help you lift your very best. I'm now doing the intermediate weightlifting program directly with Joe. He has so much knowledge and has helped me with my technique and confidence in my lifts. Coaches Jenny and Lindsey are also amazing resources and are always happy to share their knowledge with anyone. Joe has a great team and I take great pride in being part of the Performance One community!

I've been going to Performance One for just one month and already I can feel that my back and core are stronger and in a safer, more stable alignment during the movements. Before I came here I had to recover from a back injury due to bad form and going too heavy. I was closing back in on 136kg for clean and jerk. Now at Performance One I'm doing reps at 100kg, but I'm new and the repetition is not easy. If you love Olympic Lifting, this is where you should be. If you leave your ego at the door I believe coaches Joe and Lindsay can take you well past where you thought your limitations were. The coaching here is serious. It's not for the self-doubting type. Come in with confidence and work hard, then expect nearly every single movement (including warmups) to be heavily scrutinized and analyzed, with constant feedback. Joe speaks in scientific terms, think force = mass x acceleration. It's easy to understand. He can spot your bar path from across the gym. Today I caught a clean on my heels and lifted my toes maybe a tenth of an inch, I didn't even know I was doing it, but once Joe told me to keep my feet flat I realized they weren't. This kind of attention to detail takes decades. The only disappointment I have is that I wasn't here five years ago.

Training here at Performance One has been amazing. Each session is well-structured, challenging, and tailored to my specific needs and goals. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced lifter, Coach Joe and the other coaches provide the knowledge, motivation, and accountability needed to reach the next level. The atmosphere all around is worth checking out for yourself. Highly recommend to anyone serious about strength training.

Been training under Joe Micela for over 8 years and he is the best Olympic weightlifting/strength and conditioning coach in Arizona, bar none. He cares deeply for his athletes and will go above and beyond for you. He is dedicated to his craft and it shows. You won’t find any place better than Performance One.

I came here years ago to see if I would be any good at Olympic Weightlifting. I can confidently say Coach Joe is almost too good at what he does. There are weights I have been able to lift that I never thought I would be able to come close to. He believes in his athletes and the sport has taught me discipline and confidence not only in sport but in life. Whether it’s weightlifting or strength and conditioning, you will be molded into an athlete here. My most recent PR was a back squat double at 170kg (374lbs) posted here. Thanks Joe for all you do!!
