This place is a wreck, and I cannot fathom how it wears a crown of four point seven stars. One need only read the glowing praise to see the trick. Words like quaint, intimate, and throwback are trotted out with flourish, yet all serve as polite disguises for neglect. It is far from the cleanest food pod, and much of it lies in disrepair. Some stalls appear barely fit for trade, let alone for feeding the public. I sampled the barbecue, if such a word still applies, and soon learned its true origin story. The microwave had clearly been summoned, though only halfheartedly. Friend, if thou must press the button, press it boldly. Add thirty seconds more, I beg thee, so the food arrives warm enough to resemble a meal. Judge for thyself if thou must, but know this. Fine words may dress a place up, yet they cannot repair what is broken, nor heat what was never truly cooked.
This food cart pod is I am really intimately so it doesn’t feel as open as most food cards in Portland. There’s undercover seating which was very quaint. The selection of food carts was great. I chose the barbecue cart and ordered the three meat dinner with macaroni cheese and potato salad. My three meats were ribs, beef, brisket, and chicken thigh. I should’ve ordered the sauce on the side. The sauce is very sweet and there is too much of it, the ribs were fall off the bone. The brisket was soft and tasty. However, the chicken thigh was very overcooked and since everything was drenched in the same sauce, it all tasted very, very similar. The service was polite, quick and good. My meal was given to me within a manner of minutes. The price was very, very good. I actually will go back but order my meal with the sauce on the side.
Sea shantytown vide with plenty of diverse food and drink options. Great seating indoor and outdoor. Family friendly with great arcade on site!!! The food carts here are one of a kind so bring friends for a cool experience!!!!
Loved the boat theme and the entire vibe here. Tried the tuna and oceano poke bowls at Kawthooleipoe and it was delish!! BEST one I've had in Portland. It had a great mixture of sweet, salty and crunchy elements and they did not skimp on the fish. It was a very generous portion. Will DEF be going back when we're in Portland again. 😄
Aesthetically, Piedmont Station is probably the coolest food cart pod in Portland. Everything about the décor is fantastic, from the slightly-claustrophobic lanes running between the "rustic"-looking, junkyard-chic dining shacks, the decorative lighting, spray misters for hot, sunny summer days, and even a boat-turned-dining table, you're unlikely to find a pod with more soul that this one. Couple that with some live music, and a fantastic array of cuisine choices, a coffee cart and a beer shack, makes this collection of culinary carts my new favorite! Sadly, like many other pods, some carts don't honor the operating hours that are listed online (whether it be Yelp, Google, or their own websites); an experience we encountered once again when attempting to visit a specific cart. But that just means we get to branch out and try something else, and we were very much satisfied with our alternative, the eminently excellent Halibut's. Piedmont Station is worth a visit for ambiance alone, but the perks and provisions for purchase, promote his pod to peak palate-pleasing preeminence!
