The restaurant recently relaunched (they had their soft reopening on Jan 1). I was satisfied with my experience - the food was kind of mid (I get the sense they’re still working out the new menu), but it’s hard to really impress when it comes to breakfast. The atmosphere is pleasant and the service was excellent. A solid choice if you’re in the area!
What I loved about Poeta when it was in the other hotel, was the ambiance and the very delicious pasta. These two things did not change, even if their location did. They kept the green walls that makes it feel very cozy and it's even more spacious in their new space. I feel like it could be a restaurant found downtown rather than tucked away inside of East Austin Hotel. I hope that they are here to stay and get settled in because the food is always so good. I find it hard to revisit restaurants in Austin, since there are always so many new ones popping up, but Poeta and their sister restaurant are my tried and true favorites. It's an a la carte menu, which I prefer, since in their temporary location, they offered only a tasting menu. I recommend the tuna carpaccio, beet salad, any of their pasta dishes and save room for dessert. The chevre cheesecake is my all time favorite. Their cocktails seem thought out and were delicious and boozy. Staff were super nice and it was a pleasure chatting with the owner on my way out. Parking for now, is located at the underground garage part of the hotel and validated for 2 hours. For some reason, when I put in the hotel's address, it does not lead me here. If you're coming from 35, it's on your left, pull into the driveway before the hotel, you'll see the underground garage.
Tasting menu was great and well priced, I was worried about the portions but we were all plenty full. There wasn’t a lacking dish, all great. The atmosphere is intimate inside and the garden was nice outside! I appreciated them having bug spray on hand. They are still getting their footing and service can be a little lagging. From start to finish after seating, it was 2.5 hours for all courses. We ordered 2 bottles of wine and they took a little while to arrive and didn’t arrive until we all had finished the first course. Overall, I would recommend if looking for an intimate dining experience.
Great food & friendly service in Poeta’s new space! Luckily we had a reservation because this place was packed—saw maybe two two-tops vacant in the dining room during our meal. The tuna carpaccio was our favorite; we also enjoyed the white bean dip, beet salad, sourdough, and swordfish. The over-the-top friendly service was really what made the meal though
We reserved the Chef’s tasting menu. One of us went with the vegetarian option to test it out. We liked everything about the place, service and food except for the entrees. Both the lamb and the eggplant were not up to the mark. Especially the eggplant dish. It would have been a solid 5 star if the entrees were as good as the rest of the four courses. We would recommend getting the wine pairing option that included 2 whites, 2 reds and Sherry.
