Why is everyone raving about the fried scallop sandwich? It's a big slop of their tartar sauce with limp fried scallops on a soft bread. The texture of it was greasy mush. There was so much tartar sauce on it that it made it way too salty and overpowered the scallop flavor. There definitely needs other toppings in there to balance out the textures. Onions maybe or the slaw. The fish and chips plate can be described with one word: limp. The crust on the fish was soft and the fries were limp. Did they set the temperature of their fryer to room temp? MAKE IT CRISPY PLEASE just begging for texture here. They bay shrimp cocktail was meh. The tuna sashimi was low grade.
We came here at 5 pm on a Sunday evening in December. The place wasn't too busy, about half full inside and no one on the outside. So parking was pretty easy and lots of spots. Tons of food and drink to order. We ended up ordering the Fish Sandwich (lightly breaded Alaskan Cod), the Shrimp Plate (Breaded from Sea of Cortez), Rainbow Roll (California Roll topped with Avocado, Hamachi Yelllowtail, Magure Ahi Tuna, Salmon and Boiled Mexican Shrimp, Salmon Sashimi, Fish Taquitos (Fried Alaskan Cod with Green Peppers) and Onion Rings. Anything breaded here is insanely good! Would recommend the breaded shrimp, onion rings and fries! As for the sushi and sashimi, I would recommend getting this at another place. Overall nice employees, really good fried seafood and quite a large place.
Been going here for a decade plus now. Just never disappoints! Friendly staff as well. Fresh seafood every time. Portions are great! Good selection of local beers! Great seating. My go to is the Scallop sandwich but I have never gotten anything here that I didn’t like! Unfortunately I have moved out of state, but every time I come back to visit, this is a must stop. You won’t regret it!
Edit: My husband just threw up 3x directly after eating here today. ------------------------- The worst whole belly clams I've ever had in my life. First they came out in literally a huge, wet blob. We tasted one and it was fishy and just looked off. We brought it back and they gave us a new box that was beautifully fried - until we ate them and they were so disgustingly salty we couldn't believe it. AND they were still a bit fishy tasty. We stomached the biggest pieces and left the smaller one because it was like eating literal salt. We were a larger table and by the time we all got one and realized how gross they were, we felt bad complaining again, especially since they already replaced it and there was less than half left. We trashed the rest. Pic attached. $30 wasted. We then realized they used the same horribly salty breading for the soft shell crab which we also ended up throwing away. We have a theory that since both were on the "specials" board that the items are actually old seafood and they tried to mask the fishiness with extra salt. The clam chowder is very, very plain with not many clams but lots of potatoes. They get 2 stars for the amazing scallops and, of all things, the...cole slaw. I would never come here again though.
Folks have been coming here for the past 20+ years and always look forward to getting the fish and chips. Unfortunately, the prices have sky rocketed while the portions have shrunk. The cod was still very tasty, lightly breaded and the clam chowder was still delicious. There is plenty of seating inside and outside and the guys at the counter were helpful and friendly. Overall, still very good quality but the portion size and big increase in price may have the folks trying out a new seafood place in the future.
