My wife Nancy and I felt we were 3-4 years away from retirement and had received some advice from our stock broker firm but also followed the guidance to seek independent advice from someone who is not motivated by keeping your portfolio business. We are really glad we did as Ayana did a more though assessment and analysis of our situation than the bank. She recommended some immediate tax treatment advice (rrsp vs mortgage payment) that will save us a bundle on taxes and help us retire a year or two earlier.
