I cannot recommend this office. While the doctor was fine, the business practices here are aggressive, opaque, and designed to squeeze every dollar out of patients. 1. Withholding Your Data After my exam, I realized my prescription was missing the Pupil Distance (PD)—a standard number needed to order glasses. When I emailed to ask for it, I was told: 'We do not have any records of PDs since no glasses was made here.' This is misleading. Modern pre-test machines measure this automatically. Refusing to provide it (or claiming they didn't record it) is a deliberate tactic to force you to buy frames in their lobby. 2. Mandatory Fees They charge a 'mandatory' $49 retinal screening fee on top of your insurance copay. I was told I could not opt out of this. 3. Extreme Price Gouging My prescription is incredibly light (Plano / -0.25). Despite this, they quoted me $400 for lenses out-of-pocket. 4. Unacceptable Delays It took almost a full week just to receive my prescription via email - a document that should be handed to the patient immediately after the visit. If you want a transparent medical provider who respects your right to shop around, go elsewhere.
Adding one extra star out of respect for Dr. Chung. The review is for the process of ordering glasses for my child. I ordered the glasses very fast, although I did have to point out that my child needs progressive lenses because the person taking my order missed that. Two weeks later I’m calling them back asking for updates regarding the glasses. They can’t find my child’s info saying that all they have is some records from 2 years ago. Finally, they were able to find my son’s glasses prescription. They are now asking if he needs photochromatic lenses or not. Seriously? This is something we discussed during my initial visit to them 2 weeks ago (!). Two weeks later and we still haven’t received his glasses and we are looking at another 1-2 weeks of processing time. 3-4 weeks to get glasses? If you are considering glasses for your child or yourself, please go somewhere else.
I have a pair of glasses inaccurately prescribed somewhere else and cause discomfort. Dr. Chung helped me very patiently and went through every detail making sure my prescription is correct and my eyes are comfortable with the new prescription. Strongly recommend her should you need help with your prescription glasses or a routine check.
My experience at River Oak Family has been wonderful! The staff are friendly and kind, and the Dr Debbi Fan is highly professional and very patient in answering all of my questions. My husband and I are so glad we switched from our old eye clinic to River Oak Family. The care here is warm and attentive, and I would definitely recommend them to my friends.
