The Sacramento Zoo is a beloved family-friendly attraction offering an intimate and engaging experience with a diverse collection of animals, including lions, giraffes, capybaras, and red pandas. Known for its clean, well-maintained exhibits and passionate staff, the zoo provides educational encounters like giraffe feeding and animal stories. It's a perfect destination for a fun-filled afternoon, group events, or picnics, all while supporting wildlife conservation in a serene setting.
The Sacramento Zoo was unexpectedly great. The exhibits were thoughtful and engaging, and the animals all appeared well cared for. We went specifically to see the capybara babies, and they absolutely delivered. That alone was worth the visit. Overall, the zoo does not get nearly enough attention. The experience felt on par with larger, more well known local zoos like the Oakland Zoo and the San Francisco Zoo, but without the crowds or overwhelm. It was an easy, enjoyable visit and a really pleasant surprise. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area.
Pretty cool zoo, a little on the pricier side for what you get. Good variety of animals and decent enclosures for them. Enrichment for the animals is on the lower side but you can tell the employees care about them and are enthusiastic about their profession. The grounds were in very good shape, extremely clean and trash cans everywhere. The entirety of the zoo wouldn't take the average family more than an hour and a half. Overall a fun afternoon activity.
I loved this small and cute zoo. It has a lot of cool animals like lions, giraffes, capybara, red pandas, okappi (the only living relative to giraffe). Very clean and quite. Giraffe feeding was the best experience! Recommend buying tickets days in advance as it can be much cheaper than buying at the entrance which is 27 per adult.
Loved this place! Decent number of unique animals, with a wonderful habitat for many. My toddler absolutely loved the flamingo area. Was pleasantly surprised that the closing hour does not equate actual closing time - whilst listed as 4pm closing, you're actually allowed to stay till 5pm. Price guide (as of Sep 2025): Entry 1 adult $27 A-Z moving animals kids book $19.52
It was my first visit of the Sac Zoo. I was slightly regreted by the pass ticket. Based on the notice on the kiosk, it said $29 per adult (members $25), kids under 5 - free. However, we spent $77 for 2 adult and a child 4 y.o. and additionally, $3 for 3 minutes for a corusel ride. Despite on it, I was surprised how clean and non-stinky air is there. Animals are super clean, calm and friendly to people. Some of them even came very close to us. Mtake sure do not feed them by regular food. Otherwise, you will be walked out from the zoo or even banned for the further visits. There are many stuff who are watching visitors to preventing the rules violations. Some bioscientists can share cute stories about animals which their cared and studyed. We heared the story about rhinoceros, whose name is James George and who is waiting for his girlfriend's tranfer. Another gentlemen told us how they tried to de-escalate abusive relationships between parrots ("domestic violence :) ). Some animals took naps in their shelters (because it was a bit hot day - weekend afternoon) and we were unable to see them. A serpentarium is too small and there are only few animals. During our visit, we noticed that some terrariums were under renovation and it will be great to see new animals who get their cozy homes. Sac Zoo can offer an open-air conference room and there is a picnic area for some family events but you cannot bring alcohol there or to be too noisy that do not scared animals. It is a very good place to have fun activities for a whole family and groups. Highly recommend!
