We hosted our daughter's 13th birthday party at the Sanctuary, and it was the perfect space. We decorated with balloons, but the existing decor, fairlights and furniture created a great canvas, so the atmosphere was great. Lauren and Elena were both so lovely, helpful and accommodating, which made the experience that much easier. I'd highly recommend considering the Sanctuary for your event!

We’ve booked Sanctuary as a beautiful venue for a number of family occasions. The lounge seats area and kitchen make it a comfortable, homey venue, without the pressure of hosting our large family at our own house. They have all the amenities we need, and the kids are excited to see the peacocks which frequent the gardens. The space is bright and lovely, and guests who haven’t seen the location always comment what a beautiful spot it is. Lauren always ensures we have everything we could need, and assisted us with some catering options. We’ll certainly book Sanctuary for our larger family events again.

Sanctuary is a charming and affordable venue in a great location and you can make it your own. At this point it’s a hidden gem that not many people know about. Yes there is limited parking but with good communication with our guests about using taxis or ride-share we managed to pull off a 70 person wedding. Where I remove a star is unfortunately due to concerns around their terms of hire and the management trying to take $450 dollars of our $500 bond without even initially supplying any photo evidence. After questioning these charges, we recouped most of that cost in the end as the evidence they had failed to match the severity of their claims. They did acknowledge to me that their terms of hire need reworking - but it’s been almost 2 months and that still hasn’t happened. The fact that they so brazenly told us they were taking 90% of our bond without ant first sending photos made us feel like we were being tried on for size. Most couples would be too busy on their honeymoons to bother looking closely. I can’t help but feel like the venue might have been aware of that and tried their luck. Now in fairness, they did handle this in a considerate and professional way and better than I expected. I really appreciated that. This aside, Sanctuary is a pleasant and cost effective blank canvas for whatever event you’re planning, but make sure you ask about charges they apply to your bond.

I’m a Mid-Century Architecture fanatic so I’m just commenting on the building itself but I like what I see. Although some research I did prior to seeing the place in-person suggested it was built in the late 30s but the ‘Foundation Stone’ clearly states it’s from the early 60s. Nice large full height windows to let the light in and that wooden floor inside is a dream! Only minimal flourishes like the set-out bricks on one end gives the building a reserved but solid external appearance and it’s still in fantastic shape!

We hired Sanctuary to hold our team Christmas Party, and it was the perfect space for our event. Lauren and Jaqui were a delight to work with and made hiring Sanctuary a breeze. The space was all set up for us ready to go, which made our event fairly relaxed and straight forward. Highly recommend Sanctuary for anyone needing an events space in Canberra!
