This is an incredible place to wander. I came in with an idea of what I was looking for, but was instead met with a book that I didn’t know that I needed. But if you are looking for something specific, the owner will diligently hunt it down or nudge you in the right direction. He offered complimentary espresso at the door which made the whole experience that much more special. This is definitely a neighborhood gem and I will be back again and again.
I had limited time in LA and wanted to spend it checking out a neat independent bookstore and I'm glad I chose this one. It is delightful: cozily chaotic, eclectic maximalism in every direction. I could have spent all day looking through the shelves and stacks of books, the decorations and art, and various items for sale if only I had more time to do so. I'll definitely be back if I'm ever passing through LA again!
Update: This shop is really something else. I was super excited. It smells like old books as soon as you step in. I could easily spend half a day there just perusing. They have new and old books. I wish I could have stayed longer. I’m so bad at writing reviews 😆. But this is the best book shop I’ve ever been to. I’m going to be there on October 18th. I hope it’s open? I’m so excited. I did my research on what book store to visit on my LA trip with my husband. We’re treating ourselves to a little trip for our 1 year anniversary. I already went to Last Bookstore Downtown so I wanted a new experience. Something more cozy and I think this is the place. I will update my review after we visit. I hope to find some treasures ✨ We don’t have a good selection of used bookstores in Phoenix unfortunately.
An LA must-stop! I stopped in yesterday after a long 10 days of travel. I arrived solo and Tony immediately greeted me at the door, offering refreshments, and gave me the run down on his impressive collection. I spent the next 2 hours or so browsing his shop and talking with him. I throughly enjoyed every minute of my visit! I was actually having a really weird day and my trip to sideshow made everything better. His prices can’t be beat, and you’re guaranteed to find something here that sparks interest. I could’ve easily spent all day looking for books and chatting with Tony, and I’m so envious I’m not from the area because he told me they host movie nights there frequently. Tony, thank you for the good conversation! I will remember my first trip to sideshow fondly. I hope to cross paths with you again soon! :)
super lovely hidden gem! I called ahead of time to see if they carried a book and the owner put it aside for me. The inside of the store is like a magical little wonderland filled with great quality used books, rare finds, records, posters, and trinkets that give the place so much personality and character. The owner is really down to earth and even offered me an espresso he was making. Wish I’d known about it sooner, and will definitely be making it a regular stop!
