Here's an honest review. So, we came in to Austin where I work in a Chrysler Pacifica with a Braun Ability wheel chair conversion. The battery the night prior was DEAD. My husband put it on a charger and it took the charge, great. BUT when I started the van, it took several push starts and started but I just did not feel comfortable. It gets dark early, we have no family in Austin, and I had my work partner in a wheel chair and this van is our only way for him to get around right now due his debilitating arthritis. I have back-to-back clients and I could not see any way I could take it in and wait for a battery install. I had cables but at my office, now that it gets dark so early everyone darts out of the building and there's no one around for a jump, plus I was not sure it would take a 2nd charge. When I called 1. I got a person immediately--no voicemail a human which was reassuring. 2. There is clear transparency on the charge. $ 150 mobile fee, Labor $150 plus the cost of the battery. So, $300 to come out and install. This seemed high, but we had no choice. I went with his company because of the positive reviews. 3. The tech was great. He told my work colleague that he checked out the electronics and everything was good. My colleague watched the install from the foyer sitting in his wheel chair. So I thought, great it's fixed. 4. Yes, the battery started up BUT when I went to deploy the ramp-it would not deploy. There were other issues Everything was working fine with a weak battery. So, okay--I'm 5 '1 so I'm not the pillar of strength nor am I young. I had no idea what we were going to do with the ramp not working. My colleague was able to get up into the front passenger seat. I had to literally heist his electric wheelchair into the van along with our bags. It was a strain. And I had to do it again when I took him home and again the next morning. It's amazing I did it without hurting myself. 5 . I researched the issue that night, and I was certain it was fuses blown the electrical charge of the new battery install. I had the owner's manual and the Braun Ability manual ready and I called, thinking I'd get an empathic response. Now from #3 to #5 is the reason for the 3 stars.... Basically, we were told to go to a BraunAbility Authorized service center-- and asked if we wanted to be sent service center contact info. I replied, "ok" and then crickets. Here you have an elderly man, 74 with crippling arthritis who is wheel chair bound and a woman lifting an electric wheel chair because the ramp no longer works and this is the response? And no service center contact info-- I felt like they made their money and they were done. It was like they did not want to mess with the complexity of this disability van but if they were very well aware of the van conversion and if there was any doubt they could do the work and restore it completely, they should NOT have accepted the work. They could have at least come to take a look, courtesy to make things right because it's the humane and ethical thing to do. And yes, it was fuses--that's it. And I had the manual locating the fuses. At least they could have taken a look and not just ignored the need. And not assured us that they had checked it all out and everything was fine. It was not. I have given a fair review. I have highlighted for you what to expect in terms of cost and response. The service, well that's for you to decide. 1. We were not "stranded"--We were in a level parking lot at our office. If you Sir, had simply said we do not do conversion disability vans, I would have looked for another option. Its not just fixing the Battery--The ramp is a CRITICAL function. We were not off the side of the road. There was no emergency as we were in a heated office, secure in an very safe office building . 2. It was a blown fuse. No resetting or calibration needed. We had a van that could drive, but our ramp did not work AFTER the battery install. That's critical. How long would check out a few fuses. All that aside, I hope you are well.
