Our beloved kitten had a peaceful passing at St. Paul Pet Hospital, and they were intentional and compassionate every step of the way. Dr. Sarah and our tech were wonderful.
I like this pet hospital. I have come here for about six years. I am usually able to get an appointment within a month. I was told I would need to see a veterinarian; to get a prescription; to be able to purchase the monthly flea/ heart worm /tick prevention medication I am told I require for my tiny terrier who has serious issues with medication being too strong for his little body. I asked how much it would be for the appointment, and was told it would be approximately $75.00 to see the veterinarian. I found out that nurses, tests, fees, and prescriptions, and tax, everything would be additional costs. They are a family oriented location with very friendly people and employees. I suggest definitely getting a quote for whatever your visit or concern is, look into the details, and ask about the costs, or if they ask for, or require any tests, ask if there are extra costs for the tests? are the tests absolutely required?, and be careful not to forget to ask questions about every extra suggestion they may make. I knew what I needed was a prescription to purchase the medications. One had refills, but again I needed to see the vet before they would refill it, even though it still had refills available, as it had been over a year since I had been seen by a veterinarian at this location. If it has been 12 months since your last visit here you will be required to pay to see a veterinarian. Nothing seems to be included with seeing the veterinarian, besides prescription refills when nothing is wrong with your animal. When I make an appointment Especially if their policy is to see a vet$, to do a test$, to get the required prescription$, to get to have the opportunity to buy the pill$, please take the time to pause, check, or ask and give a correct price$, my visit was considerably more$ than what I was quoted$ when I made the appointment. I was refunded the amount$ I was overcharged from my quote. Also, I wanted to add that my previous prescription was changed without any conversation with the vet. The prescriptions were emailed to me. I had to have the prescription changed back to pills because liquid in a dropper is almost impossible for me to give in a calm way to my boy. I truly appreciate the follow through from Saint Paul Pet Hospital. Thank you for caring about your customers and making things right for me and my companion.
Dr Eric, practice owner, and the entire team at SPPH are truly the best around. We really appreciate their empathetic, practical approach and thorough explanations. They take the time to answer every question with compassion and have a practical “life happens” approach (no shame, ever!). It’s easy to book appointments and communicate with the team via the Otto app, which has even saved us the time and money of office visits on occasion. We will be lifelong clients at St Paul Pet Hospital!
I can’t say enough positive things about St. Paul Pet. We established care with our senior dog, Buffy, at St. Paul Pet in 2020 and they provided attentive, thoughtful, and personalized care for her until the end of her life this week. When Buffy started to decline in health, the veterinary staff we worked with were honest and compassionate with us, and I trusted them fully in helping us make very difficult decisions. They worked with us to ensure that Buffy’s death was peaceful and came to our home to allow her to pass in our backyard where she loved to spend her days. They talked us through every step of the process and treated Buffy with the utmost care and respect. They ensured that we had time with Buffy to say goodbye and honored our grief, and were gracious about making sure we had ways to remember her after she passed. The day after Buffy died, we received a beautiful bouquet from a local flower shop with a note from St. Paul Pet, expressing their condolences. Owning a senior dog required frequent vet visits and St. Paul Pet was always easy to communicate with and upfront about prices. We didn’t always have the same vet, but it was clear that each person we encountered, from the front desk staff to vet techs to veterinarians, loved animals and knew how important Buffy was to us. Dr. Eric, the practice owner, provided care to Buffy a few times and his love for animals and dedication to the practice came through very clearly. At each visit, no matter who it was providing care to Buffy, I felt confident that they had reviewed her chart and knew how to best support her and me as the owner. Communication was clear and I never felt pressured to pay for additional care, medicine, or services that wasn’t necessary for Buffy’s well-being. When Buffy required more specialized care that St. Paul Pet couldn’t provide, they were upfront about this and provided practical references for us to address her needs elsewhere. Buffy was always happy to go to the vet, in fact, there were a few times where’d we be on a walk and Buffy would stop in front of the entrance to St. Paul Pet and refuse to move. She knew that she’d receive tons of treats and positive attention if she walked in there. To address the other reviews about prices and billing: corporate consolidation of vet practices is a serious issue in the vet industry; private equity firms are buying local practices and pushing out local ownership. I am proud to support a locally owned practice and will happily pay more knowing that my dog is getting individualized care from people who work hard to remain in an emotionally and physically taxing practice, and love what they do. When we adopt our next senior dog, we’ll be trusting St. Paul Pet with her care, and I’ll continue recommending their services to others.
We have loved our experience at Saint Paul Pet Hospital so far! Our Penny absolutely loves everyone there and Dr. Charli and the techs have been really great at answering all my crazy questions! We have now had to start avoiding walking by on our walks because Penny whines at the door begging to go inside and say hi to everyone! Never thought I’d have a puppy who wants to go to the vet so bad! Truly couldn’t be more thankful for the incredibly positive experience we’ve had.
