You can absolutely trust this place! I was nervous about getting my dress tailored as I was last minute and it was a satin Six Stories bridesmaid dress that didn’t fit well at all. It was incredibly poorly fitting when I bought it - made for a 6ft 5 woman judging by the length and so much material in all the wrong places for my body shape. Star Stitch were so quick, helpful when pinning and have totally transformed the dress. The guy I spoke to there was so lovely, made me feel super comfortable also whilst I was navigating my bra/dress situation etc! And also had it done for me in 48 hours. Was so kind and is clearly talented and they know what they’re doing. I’ve now gone through my wardrobe to take every item of clothing in that I love, that needs altering, to get them all done here.
It’s a long & painful story, so bear with me. I’ve used Star Stitch for years & never had a problem before, so assume it’s under new management or some such. Today, I visited to collect a suit I had put in to get tailored, which I explained at the time was needed for a wedding I have an attending on Monday. I went to pay but was informed that the card machine wasn’t working, and they could only accept cash. I explained I could only pay via contactless & needed the suit, as I had bought it specifically for the wedding I’m attending on Monday. Frankly, the “senior manager” couldn’t have cared less, & refused to return my suit. I suggested keeping a second blazer I had in, which cost over £500, as a deposit if they would be willing return the suit I needed for the wedding. Again she refused. She also informed me I couldn’t pay via bank transfer, as the only person who knew the sort code & account number was the owner, who wasn’t in. I asked if I could collect the suit the following day (Sunday) but was informed they aren’t open on a Sunday (despite the Facebook post informing customers that they are open between 11-5 on Sundays) Now. A positive. Chloe, a member of staff, kindly offered to open on Sunday to allow me to collect the suit, which by now seemed to be being held hostage. (This was despite the senior manager & Queen of customer service attempting to prevent this as a solution too.) To avoid this, I made a 2.5hr round trip to collect some cash, free my suit & save Sunday for both Chloe & myself. Got home hoping my ordeal was at an end, however I have now been met with a blazer which has extremely noticeable stitching around the cuff. During the consultation, it was agreed that the buttons would be moved up the sleeve rather than shortening from the shoulder. This would mean charging more, but hasn’t been done. So, to sum up. The senior manager was more than happy for me not to have the suit I had paid roughly £700 for (plus another £50 for tailoring) because her card machine was broken & she didn’t know the bank account number of the business she manages. They’ve charged me for work they haven’t done, and they had absolutely zero interest in resolving any of the above. As a result & over £70 that they would have got anyway, they have lost my custom, & custom of a number of friends & family I have recommended over the years. Separately, as an employee of HMRC, the inability to pay with anything other than physical cash seems strange. I’ll follow up with this separately later in the month. For anyone who’s made it through, thanks for reading. For anyone looking for a competent tailor, Sew Easy on Mitchell Street are a great option.
My boyfriend had used Star Stitch before and always had good things to say, so when I had 2 pairs of jeans that needed taken in, I went there! My God, was he right- they are seriously good! The guy that pinned in the waist for me and then pinned up the frayed ends that I didn't like, did it really quickly, so I wasn't sure if they'd get it right. I thought it would take more time. Nope- just got both pairs of jeans back today and they are PERFECT. And it was not expensive. Thank you so much to Star Stitch. Would definitely recommend!! :)
Fantastic service, decent price and very friendly staff! Came in to have my bridesmaid dress altered and it was ready for the pick up within 24 hours and it was just perfect! Outstanding customer service!
Have used many times and they are trusted by all the top brand shops. On the few occasions (3) when things have not been done as agreed they did re-do without having to repay however I did get the impression that I was getting the blame. Would never agree to having jacket sleeve half way down my hand! Have recommended to several friends who were very pleased with their service.
