I had an appointment at 10 AM for a Level 4 lay-down tanning bed, which is part of my monthly package at TanBella. When I arrived, they had me down for a Level 5 bed instead which is not what I pay for. I asked if they had a Level 4 available, but they said no, and they only offered the Level 5 if I paid extra. I really didn’t want to pay more since it was their scheduling mistake, and they didn’t have any lower-level laydown beds available either. In the end, I basically had to pay extra for the Level 5 just to get my tanning session done. It’s frustrating that they don’t have a more reliable booking system to avoid these issues. Overall, it was a pretty irritating experience.

Tan Bella in the Castro is more than just a tanning salon—it’s a little oasis of care and comfort. I’ve struggled with very severe plaque psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis since I was young. Growing up in New Mexico, I would cover up my arms and legs even in the summer heat, just to avoid the discomfort and stigma. Over time, I learned that regular exposure to vitamin D made a huge difference for me—physically and emotionally. While I know tanning can be controversial, for me it’s been an important part of managing a lifelong autoimmune condition in a natural, non-invasive way. Tan Bella has been such a gift. The space is spotless, the staff are lovely and respectful, and the environment is calming and clean—right down to the little things like good magazines in the waiting room and friendly energy from the other clients. It feels really peaceful and safe, which I truly value. One small note: they currently only accept large bills (like $100s) for purchases over a certain amount (I believe $70), so if you prefer to pay in cash like I do, just be prepared for that. Still, that’s a small inconvenience in an otherwise really thoughtful experience. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a clean, welcoming space to get some vitamin D in a way that works for your body and your health.

My over all tanning experience was great, I had to cancel my membership because I wouldn’t have enough time to come there to tan. This location will work great for people who have more flexible schedules, since you need an appointment in advance. The front desk was always nice, I did have a problem with email communication but I am glad that was resolved . 🌞

I love Tan Bella on Market St. I do both Red Light Therapy and tan and I love the way I look and feel after every appointment. The staff is super friendly and professional. I highly recommend Tan Bella for any tan or red light therapy needs. Also- a tip from me is to always use lotion when you tan and there is even a special lotion for doing red light therapy. They have a great selection of lotions available for purchase.

I’m visiting from Canada and when I’m at home I have my favourite place to tan that treats me like family. I have noticed since I’ve been here that as a general rule people here aren’t as friendly as they are at home. Walking down the street people don’t make eye contact. They don’t smile and say hi like they do back home. I was a tiny bit apprehensive when I first walked into tan Bella , but my initial apprehensiveness was definitely unfounded! From the minute I walked in I was greeted by no less than three wonderful people smiling at me. :D I was immediately put at ease. I bought a package appropriate for the length my visit here, as well as a lotion. I am absolutely positively beyond impressed with the service, the location, the cleanliness, the overall experience whenever I go in. I’m here until September and I am happy to call Tan Bella my Tanning home for the summer. I have to say that even my favourite salon back home doesn’t offer the cute little perks, like a jolly rancher candy, that they offer here! The beds are amazing, I did not feel pressured into buying something I didn’t need, and the lotion recommendation was out of this world! ( Also, with the purchase of my Tanning minutes, I got a great deal on the lotion. Be sure you ask about that!) Keep up the great work guys! And thank you for making this Canadian feel right at home!
