I have been going to Tax Help for over 15 years and worked with Duff, Andrea and now Kent. Everyone is super friendly, approachable and knowledgeable. Love the front desk team as well! They have always been fair to me and take the time to explain something to me. I am an Illinois resident but come back "home" to do taxes here. Highly recommend!
The term “tax professional” should not apply to this business at all from any perspective whatsoever – customer service, competence, etc. – except for the point that they WILL, indeed, charge you for taking your taxes there for them to attempt to complete. My wife and I started going to Tax Help Omaha 2 years ago, and from our first visit, we were met with a surly attitude from our “professional,” who appeared to see customers as a necessary evil in her work day. Our taxes were complete, we were shooed out the door, and assuming that we simply saw the “Dr. House” of tax preparation, we assumed that we were sacrificing a pleasant interaction for the sake of complete accuracy and focus on making sure our taxes were correct. The following year, in an attempt to please the unpleasant, we brought literally every tax record we received to our “tax professional” to mitigate her need to interact with other humans. It went smoothly, and while she was still brash, it seemed to go smoothly, and our taxes were filed again. That is, until we received a notice from the Nebraska Department of Revenue stating that there was a mistake and we owed additional money. No problem – that’s why we hire a professional, right? It must be a misunderstanding. We forwarded the info to Erin, who informed us that we now owed $3600 between the state and feds, and we needed to get them a check in the next week or so. (We’re solidly middle-class, so this is a big ask). The reason – “It looks like you gave me a 2022 W2 with the 2023 information. I did not catch it either.” So, in handing over all of our tax documents, she missed the heading. OK…mistakes happen, we’re not vengeful people. We scrounged together the $3600 last minute, but before we headed in, were told we needed to bring one more thing – a check for Tax Help Omaha for $85 for the amendment. I politely pushed back – “Do you think this is fair?” and received a snippy response (you can read it, unedited, above). Yes, she wanted to be paid for her mistake…despite the fact that it was caught by the state of Nebraska (which she remarked “Thank goodness.”) If you’re looking for a tax professional, you should absolutely find one. But, unless you’re looking for a surly place that treats customers as an annoyance, makes mistakes and charges you for them, and then relies on the state to catch them (“Thank goodness. Hopefully you have received all of your additional property tax credit refunds from the state that had been overlooked in previous years,” I was told), then you’re going to want to avoid Tax Help Omaha. The only thing that fits into the definition of “professional” with this company is the fact that you will pay them (maybe several times).
Heather Chandler at Tax Help has not only been incredibly helpful and kind to me, but she has been a lifesaver to my family. When a family member of mine needed tax help, I brought his situation to her and without hesitation she jumped in to help. She gave us great advice and helped us in every way she could. We are now 2 years into the “mess” I brought to her and we are completely through it! I could have NEVER done this alone. She’s patient, kind, and very knowledgeable. I would, and have, recommended her to friends. Thank you Heather for all you’ve done!
We value the team at O'Malleys so much! We have done our taxes with them for years and appreciate their guidance on it. We do all of our investing and financial planning with Bridget, we are confident with her direction and how she is setting us up for success financially to meet our life goals. Now that we are business owners we have been grateful to have accounting advise from the team as well. Heather has been an advocate for us from the start and continues to be! We would highly recommend their services to anyone and often do encourage people to check them out. Thank you for partnering with us in life!
I go to Erin at TaxHelp. I am newly a small business owner and don’t have all the knowledge of taxes/ how things work. I had so many questions going into my appointment.
