I moved from Utah and had the opportunity to teach and train at Texas Karate Institute until moving back to Utah. I felt like I was led to TKI!!!! Wonderful instructors!!!! It’s a great place to learn self defense, it’s good for body and soul, discipline in many ways. Go check them out!!!! Try a class!!!! You won’t be disappointed! It’s great for ALL AGES!!!!!!! You are never too young and especially not too old to learn how to protect yourself mentally and physically. They will tailor for your needs!!!! What are you waiting for? ! Don’t put something important off another minute!!! There’s only one YOU and you deserve to be prepared!! This is the place to do it!

Fantastic staff and welcoming environment to safely and effectively learn self defense. Kickboxing provides an intense workout that will definitely make you sweat. The ownership has transitioned from the original owner that I started under however the quality and knowledge of the dojo has not suffered in the slightest. TKI remains one of the top places to train in self defense/martial arts

Mr. Down is a great teacher ,caring and knowledgeable .The tuition fee is 33% less than other place in town. But my 8 yr old son quit after 1+ yr . This is due to high turn over rate for the kid class. Most of them did not stay more than 3 months. The self defense class need 2 students to practice one each other. When the class has 3 new kids and only one supervisor . The supervision is lacking , and my son got threw down and knock his head when he paired with a new kid. I really want this dojo to be successful but eventually need to move my son to more structural dojo. The adult and teen class are great with much less turn over rate and most of the black belt folks still came to class.

My daughter has been attending classes here at Texas Karate Institute for a couple of months now and I am so glad that we decided to join! She has made a lot of progress under the wonderful instruction of Mr. Downs and she has improved so much at class AND at home. We are so proud of her progress but even better is that I see my daughter being proud of herself and as the mother of a girl in this day and age, that makes me happier than anything else. Mr. Downs is a great instructor and always makes sure the children learn as well as have fun. If you're looking for an affordable, yet wonderful place to send your child (or even yourself), this is the place!

This is the school to go to if you want to become a martial artist. I attended this school while I was in college but I had practiced in another system before moving to Lubbock. There were a few things I had to relearn but these guys were absolutely wonderful about working with me, teaching me their system and helping me get better at karate. Master Downs is a great teacher and wonderful person. His instructors are equally great and take a real interest in your martial arts education. If you're thinking about starting martial arts, you need to check this place out first.
