Spent a lovely afternoon at The Art Workshop today and took part in an Introduction to Oil Painting workshop. The teacher was so knowledgeable, warm and welcoming and catered to all levels of experience and skills. I am looking forward to my next workshop.

I took the Introduction to Watercolor workshop and truly enjoyed it! The place is lovely, the staff were very kind, and Kate was a wonderful instructor. I gained skills I didn’t expect from an introductory course. Highly recommended for beginners.

Just had my first class, and I'm very pleased with how the lessons are being structured. You can also get away with not bringing materials on the first day as there is stock you can purchase as needed. Genevieve already gives me the impression of being a great tutor that honestly creates a lovely atmosphere in the class. The workshop itself has brilliant transport links, so you have choices of public transport. I also take advantage of the coffee shops nearby while I wait for class to start.

I have attended several of the Saturday Art and Drawing courses and have enjoyed them. Each term you focus on a particular topic or theme and the classes are structured so that you learn a lot about different artists and art history, the background context informing their work and styles, fundamentals in technique and how to view the world around you. You then have the opportunity to apply and practice what you have learned in a relaxed and supportive environment and Gen is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic in her teaching. I’d recommend the course to anyone, whether you are a beginner or if you are someone who wants to deepen their knowledge and appreciation of different styles and approaches.

I am into my fifth year doing oil painting at the Art Workshop and absolutely love it. I am a very happy amateur and love pushing myself to be more bold, impressionistic, loose and imaginative (not easy for someone who has always twiddled about with painstaking little watercolours…) but I also love that we learn about fine art and great artists; it really does make me enter galleries with a different and keener eye, and inspires me to - sorry! - paint more mindfully. That’s the ambition, anyway, so each term - there’s always a new theme to explore - brings fresh excitement and new challenges. It’s a highlight of every week. Thanks Gen!
