We take our entire family to Lillian—no place treats us better or makes us feel more at home. The atmosphere is great, and the service can’t be beat.
Stumbled across this place when searching for "Boise highest reviewed barbers" a few months ago, and so glad we did! It's a huge relief to have a comfortable place to go when we visit Boise, and know what I can expect for my teenager. Lillian has given him tips and tricks on skin care while taking excellent care of his face and hair. He appreciates how easy it is to convey his haircut goals to her as well as her friendly and sincere demeanor.
Chris is a nice guy, however I received a BAD undercut and lost far more length than I asked for. I was already missing a lot of length so I obviously did not elect to have him try and fix it. Overpriced, haircuts are sub par, policy is even worse.
For years I have struggled to get the haircut I’ve wanted. I’ve never been good at fully expressing what I want. My hair has always struggled to hold its shape, its volume, and overall look. I eventually wanted to finally see a proper barber. I came across Jim, someone who specializes in long hair. And he has done what no other hair stylist has been able to do for me. After wearing a hat all day, sleeping (and bed head has always been an issue for me) my hair has kept its shape and volume, all without product. I have never been so happy about the haircut I have received. Jim is patient and can dissect what you want even if you can’t speak “hair talk”. He educates you about your hair, why he’s doing what he’s doing, how to keep it healthy, etc. It was a no brainer to set up a second appointment with him. If you have longer hair, and have had the same issues as me and want to feel much better about your cut, I highly recommend Jim.
The Barber Story is a shop nestled into Latah St in Boise, Idaho. I made an appointment with the owner, Chris Bentley to take my undercut back down to skin. When I arrived, I was greeted with a warm welcome and instantly felt like I had just met back up with an old friend. Chris has what I can only describe as an "Edward Norton-esque" enthusiasm for life and people. I was able to talk to him in between appointments and the passion he has for his business really inspired me. We talked about the goal of The Barber Story and Chris expressed the desire to have the shop be a modern barber experience. I asked him what that meant to him. He whipped out his phone and showed me a menu he had seen with both men and women's hair options on them, illustrated with pictures. Then went on to say that he wants a clean lined, positive environment where both men and women feel welcome to come. To get away from the "man cave" stigma that surrounds barber shop mentality. I completely agree with his assessment. As a woman with short hair for the last couple of years, I would go into barber shops to have my hair cut or undercut straight razored and the mood changed when I walked through the door. I felt the opposite when entering The Barber Story and LOVE the service I received. Both barbers in The Barber Story were friendly, engaging with their clients, and took time to educate about styling/products to achieve the ideal finished look. I highly recommend them for any of your hair cutting needs. Thanks for letting me hang out and get to know you, guys!
