James is exceptional, and always has a thoughtful game plan for my hair. Most importantly, he makes sure I am happy and feeling good before I leave- every time.
I am from Philly. I visited it for the first time. I had a good haircut. Better than J Moose, no doubt. My sister is an ASU alumni. We then bought a house. I can never live in AZ. Go sun devils!!! I will return in the future, no doubt.
I don't know why it's taken me so long to review TDD. A barber shop is a tough thing to find. Not there aren't many around; there are. But finding one where you enjoy walking in the door, sitting in the chair, being in the banter, that's not easy. There aren't many places where a guy can just sit and be a guy for a half-hour (forgive me if you disagree). TDD is that place. That's not to say it ain't family friendly. Just depends on the family. I go to James and he's awesome. Always come out feeling fresh and my wife likes the haircut too. The other dudes are all cool too and their chairs are always full of happy people. So if you want to eschew the chain and find yourself a real barber shop, hit this place up.
I can see why this place has 5 stars! So let me share our 5 star experience: I took my 5 year old son for a hair cut (to a pretty typical hair cut place) two days before picture day at school… what a mistake that was. 🤦🏼♀️ The girl HACKED his hair up. It was BAD. That left me scrambling to find somewhere to fix it. I decided it would probably be best to take him to an actual barber who specializes in his type of hair cut. That’s where The Dapper Devil and James comes in. I made an appointment for 5pm (now the day before picture day). Well… when we got there, my son was tired and generally overwhelmed by walking into a new place that looked different from the type of places he’s used to going. He just melted down. I tried everything to talk him down and get him to come around to the idea. James was amazing, trying to get him excited but it just wasn’t in the cards for us last night. James asked when I drop him off at school and offered to come in at 7am, THREE HOURS before they open to get my sons hair fixed up. 😱 We didn’t need to be there till a bit later so 8am was totally doable for us and he insisted we come at 8am. Fast forward to the next morning (today). We got there at 8am and James was ready for us. My son was in a much better place and was happy to be there, but still a bit nervous. James was SO patient, kind, and even a little silly to get my son comfortable. He showed my son everything he was going to do, let him pick the comb color, the water bottle, etc to allow my son to feel like he was a part of the experience. James gave me some pomade and explained to me how to use it best to get my sons double cowlicks to sit down properly. And then…. He REFUSED to let me pay him for the hair cut OR the pomade. I practically begged to let me pay and he refused. He said he was happy to get my sons hair fixed up and give him a positive experience so he’s excited to come back. Hair cuts have always been a touchy thing for my son, so thank you so much James and ALL the barbers there on Thursday evening who tried to help my son through the nerves. We will ABSOLUTELY be back for every haircut in the future. ❤️
Its really hard to find local owned local run businesses in Pheonix/Scottsdale anymore. Even rarer is truely 5/5 service. In all my years writing reviews ive never wished I could go 6 stars out of 5. You really get treated like family and the value you receive is phenomenal. "Its not all about money, its about making people look good and doing what we enjoy"... thats a quote. Today was my first visit and best believe im a regular now. I highly suggest this shop over any in the area. Trust me ive been chopped up everywhere else.
