This is my 3rd alteration and I've recommended my partner to here as well. Competitive prices, great owners and staff, very friendly. I love the 24 hour turn around time for hems (upcharge for sooner). I would recommend to everyone!!
I went to Fit Alterations and Custom Designs on 7th Street because they were recommended online as one of the “best in Phoenix,” and I needed my suit to look sharp for my daughter’s custody hearing. I went far in advance and paid three hundred dollars, expecting clean, professional tailoring. What I got was nowhere close to professional. When I brought the suit home and tried it on properly, something looked completely off. The jacket didn’t sit right, the shape was wrong, and there was even a noticeable lump in the back near my neck. The arms weren’t tapered correctly, and the torso was box-shaped. When I pointed this out, the tailor brushed it off and told me it was “just because I turned my head,” which was not true. I wasn’t interested in giving them any more of my money to fix the mistakes they created. Instead, I went to Patricia at Alterations Best Stitch on 16th Street and Bethany Home for a second opinion and to look at the work objectively. The moment she opened the jacket, she showed me exactly how poorly the original job had been done. She pointed out: • uneven, sloppy stitching • cuts made where no professional tailor would ever cut • incorrect shaping and structure inside the jacket • sleeves tapered incorrectly • poor tailoring in the torso • and pants pockets sewn unevenly — shaped like women’s pants She told me straight up that the work looked amateur and nowhere near worth the three hundred dollars I paid. She had to repair both the jacket and the pants because the original alterations were that bad. Seeing the inside of the suit after she opened it up made it clear that going back to Fit Alterations would have been a waste of time and money. I couldn’t trust them to fix what they had already messed up. I paid premium pricing and received low-skill work. I lost time, money, and confidence in the suit, and had to pay another professional to correct their mistakes. I would never recommend Fit Alterations and Custom Designs to anyone. If you value your clothing or you’re preparing for something important, go somewhere else. This place almost ruined my suit and delivered nothing close to the quality I paid for.
The front counter man that runs the place was condescending and I am very picky about where I put my money. I'm used to paying when I receive my item to make sure everything is okay. He said it's prepaid and when I asked how much, again condescending attitude when he could have quoted me a range for the very simple alteration I needed the same as he quoted me how long it would take. I'm only taking my mother of the bride dress up 1.5 inches from the bottom. My shoes weren't in yet, but I provided that it was a 3imch heel. Once I tried the dress on he had one of the men that does the alterations quote me $90. I had another two places to check first and I'm glad I went somewhere else. This shop was run by a sweet older woman working alone. She let me choose to pay at pickup and let me set the date for pickup. She's also $30 cheaper and actually pinned the length to see how I wanted it. She even had a sample pair of heels. All in all, the man running this place needs to hire someone with better customer service skills or figure out how to treat his customers better.
I want to give a big thank you to the staff for getting me right for my formal dance. I got so many compliments. I ordered a standard dress online and had it altered here. From start to pick up. The shorter gentleman at the front made me feel so welcome and assured that I would be right by my day. And was. I went in for 3 total fitting before taking my dress home the day before my event. Any suggestions I brought up was met and some I didn't think about. I am very grateful and now that I have found this gem I will surely be back next time ordering directly through them from start to pick up.
I had my wedding dress alterations done here at the fit alterations. Dennis was so nice and really made me feel like he wanted my dress to be perfect. It did take 3 fittings but at the end it was all worth it. I love my dress, I looked so beautiful on my wedding day! Thank you so much!!!
