My friend and I came here for a workout and a male staff member asked my friend to move her gym bag off the floor. Bit of a strange rule, but that’s fine. The uncomfortable part came after we left. My friend then received an email from the gym reminding her about the bag rule, which made us feel uneasy because it meant staff had somehow accessed her personal details after seeing her in the gym. We weren’t told this would happen, and it felt intrusive. As women, it made us feel uncomfortable around privacy and safety, and we haven’t been back since.
Absolutely a great place to work out .. I just did a day pass and it was worth it. The gym is very clean and tidy, everybody’s friendly and 90% of everything you need for full body workout it’s available. The layout is nice, and I like the security of the Pin entry and exit. I brought a padlock for my locker… The only reason why I gave it four stars is because they don’t have enough cardio focusing on stomach and abs !! Nevertheless, nice Gym.
I used to love this gym and was a member for over 3 years, but unfortunately had to swap as it isn’t the gym it used to be. I noticed that while the recent refurb was great, there was a drastic decline in cleanliness. I used to always see cleaners in the gym, but have barely seen in the past few months. Even worse, the sanitising stations have been removed, which makes no sense to me since it’s such a busy gym. I would feel so disgusting after using the mats/machines and constantly paranoid about catching something like scabies or ringworm since they are so filthy. Also, the gym has become so crowded since the refurb, basically unusable on weekday evening after work. It got to the stage where I was only using this gym on the weekend as I found it so overwhelmingly cramped otherwise.
Not a bad gym. Good when not busy. Would love to see the running and other equipment cleaned a bit more. Yanga machine working now , but can be a total nightmare when it’s broken. Hopefully never again 🙏 The new refurb is slightly odd as I loved the changing rooms being down stairs. Toilets are fine but do need more of them as it can get busy and only two will not accommodate! Need to also see more air fresheners being used on them, as they can stink at times ✖️
EDIT: they have also got rid of a set of dumbbells for some reason, so now there is only one set in the free weights area. Which is ridiculous and means there are usually no dumbbells that you want left. I've seen arguments break out over this and it's made for an extra uncomfortable experience. Why would they do this? They've done up the gym which imo looks really good. However, I've noticed a lot of issues since the refurbishment. First of all, they've not added any cleaning equipment. It's insane to me that this gym doesn't have anything to clean sweaty equipment with, I feel dirty every time I leave. The place feels quite grimy in general and I can't help but think being able to clean equipment would help massively. Second, they now host classes in an area where all of the free weights, medicine balls, barbells and mats are. Which is totally fine, except when I tried to get some equipment for my workout (I stayed well out of the way of the class, which was on the other side of the area) I was rudely shouted at by the instructor, Andy, who embarrassed me in front of the entire class. He said I'd have to ask for each piece of equipment I needed. Which is ridiculous considering I'd have to interrupt the class every time I wanted a different weight. So basically, if you want to use free weights you have to check the schedule and it's tough shit if a class is on at the time you want to go. The WiFi has also got noticeably worse since the refurb and barely works on the second floor. The decision to put all lockers on the top floor is bizarre and annoying. Also, I've never in my life been told off as much as I have in this gym. I think my schoolteachers were more lenient than the trainers here. I've been yelled at for having a jacket with me, a small bag, my posture being incorrect, and, as said previously, just trying to get equipment. If it wasn't for all of those things it would be a great place to go and exercise:)
