I've been studying at SSCA for about a month now. I thought that learning technique and skills would be quite dry, and something I more had to get through to reach the results I wanted more than something I'd enjoy. What I've found is that the classes and methods are actually very engaging - it is certainly very different to the kind of approach I use when making art in my own time, but I really appreciate the overarching lesson of taking the time to perfect to the highest degree possible each stage of your work. I already feel as though my ability to identify and correct mistakes in my work is improving, and having access to the instructor's demonstrations, classmates' works and feedback, and resources such as the live models for figure drawing really make the classes worthwhile. This might all sound very lofty and academic, but I'd also like to note that the instructor and fellow classmates are all wonderful and friendly people. You progress a lot, but you also have fun. I'm very glad I went for SSCA.

I have enjoyed the teaching at the school and completed various drawings that I would not have thought possible before starting the course. The studio is lovely and the fellow students always very supportive. Although I found the course challenging at times it is very rewarding!

Excellent teaching -plenty of personal attention. Teaching methods are very clear and have helped me understand how to draw. I’ve improved massively in the 2 years I’ve been attending.

I’ve been studying at this atelier for six weeks and I’m really enjoying it. The teaching is grounded in classical techniques, and while it’s challenging, the tutor is encouraging and supportive. I’ve already seen a real improvement in my drawing, especially in proportion and alignment. There’s a great mix of ages and experience levels among the students, which makes for a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere. I’d highly recommend this course for anyone seriously interested in developing their drawing and later on, their oil painting skills.
