A friend and I went to Wine Whisperer in Short Pump for dinner and to try their “personality test” flight (Dealer’s Choice), and it was such a fun and intriguing experience. Answering a handful of simple questions somehow led to the perfect glass of wine. Our flights were spot-on and honestly taught us a lot about our own preferences. I’m someone who usually orders a Pinot Noir or Malbec but couldn’t really explain why or identify specific flavors — this experience helped change that. The questions ranged from your favorite color and fruit (not grapes 😉) to where you’d go on an all-expenses-paid vacation, and it was fascinating how accurately those answers translated into wine selections. The wine itself was lovely, and learning that they receive new wines weekly really stood out to me. I’ve been part of several wine clubs in the past that rotate very little, so this felt refreshing and exciting. The service model felt similar to a vineyard or winery — very “all hands on deck.” While a second server did repeat some of the same information we had already heard, the overall service was fantastic. Our glasses stayed full, the table was cleared promptly, and we were well taken care of while enjoying charcuterie boards and shareables. The rotating seasonal menu (currently their alpine ski season) was a fun touch as well. Overall, a unique and enjoyable experience that I’d absolutely recommend — especially if you want to learn more about your wine personality.

I have been here 3 separate times with 3 separate groups of friends, and every single one of them has commented on how amazing this place is. My one gripe is that it can get expensive. The food is really good but that’s also where the bill can add up quick. The real star of the show here is obviously going to be their wine selection. But what makes this place a cut above the rest, and the reason all my friends and I have loved it, is the flight option for a very reasonable $17.00 (as of this writing) where you tell your server what notes you like, what categories of wine you want, etc. and the sommeliers will choose 3 wines for you. They have never missed; even if something isn’t your cup of tea, I guarantee you will find the tasting experience interesting. It’s almost like a personality test for wine! You get a little card with the names of the wines where you can rate them and take notes. The staff are friendly to a fault and extremely knowledgeable. Last time I went, we were given a full history of one of our wines with narratives from two separate sommeliers about the grapes, processes, region and so on. I will absolutely be coming back and introducing all of my friends and visiting family to The Wine Whisperer. I cannot overstate how great the experience was.
