The World of Dance and Talent is our home away from home. As an alum myself and current TWDT dance mom, I can say with confidence that Hope and Rico run their studio with an unparalleled level of professionalism and everyone is welcomed with open arms, regardless of experience. The broad dance curriculum offered is a perfect balance of discipline and fun for ages three to adult. In my experience, catty attitudes from parents here is not a typical thing. It’s very easy for the dancers and their parents alike to make new friends. The atmosphere is kind, lighthearted, and comfortable. Not at all competitive like an episode of Dance Moms, but instead, supportive. The three generous studio spaces allow for many classes to be offered and flexible scheduling options for busy parents. The lobby can accommodate parents and dancers comfortably (no current AC issues, but HEY it’s Florida- it happens). The lobby reflects a sense of pride, showcasing the studio’s colors and accomplishments. I will add that no one is required to stay in the lobby while their dancer is in class. It’s a great window of time to get some shopping done or a pedicure next door! Speaking of windows, viewing windows to the studio spaces are open until February for parents to watch their children dance. The curtains close when it’s that time of year for the instructors and dancers to focus on their recital choreography without distractions. Hope and Rico go above and beyond to ensure that communication is clear and effective for all families. Emails are sent out regularly, including monthly newsletters and reminders of important upcoming events. The newsletter is dually available in print at the front desk so that anyone who isn’t email savvy can grab a copy. Important dates and reminders are also written on the large (hard to miss) dry erase board on the wall behind the desk. They make it close to impossible to miss a date! Yes. There are annual costume and recital fees. A pair of general audience tickets are included in these fees. Additional tickets must be purchased through Ticketmaster or at the box office (for a lower price). There is usually a holiday sale on Ticketmaster before the recital deadline as well. For the gorgeous, mindfully selected costumes and spectacular venue (Jacksonville Center for the Performing Arts, formerly Times Union), I would expect nothing less and the prices are more than fair. Nice things do come with a cost. However, ALL fees are transparently listed on the studio’s website for everyone to see in advance before signing their child up for classes and the recital is not mandatory. There are no surprise costs with this studio. Yes, there are parking fees downtown on recital day, but that has nothing to do with the studio. TWDT uses a professional videographer to record their recitals and he offers more than one format for purchase. The price is fair for a professionally done keepsake and there is an annual viewing party which is loads of fun. Safety is always a priority for Hope and Rico. The recital and rehearsals are mindfully executed in a fashion that commits to the safety of every parent and child. Recital T shirts (a small price for these mementos) are an important part of identifying the dancers and maintaining a sense of uniformity and community during rehearsals. Drop-offs, pick -ups, and costume changes for younger dancers on recital day are meticulously planned every year to ensure every child’s comfort and safety, which I for one highly appreciate. We look forward to being a part of The World of Dance and Talent family for many years to come and i say this with pride. My daughter loves her dance instructors and classes. Dance is her outlet and it builds her confidence. I am more than pleased with this studio and its directors. Hope and Rico HAVE the experience and ABSOLUTELY know what they are doing. I one hundred percent recommend TWDT to anyone seeking dance classes for their child. ❤️🖤❤️
Our two oldest granddaughters have been dancing at The World Of Dance And Talent for 11 years. Our youngest is 4 and this is her second year dancing. The love of dance has been a beautiful experience to watch. Our oldest now a graduating senior has friends she will have for a life time and will always have a love for dance. We’ve been very involved and to watch the care, experience, patience and talent given to all of the students is so wonderful. The studio is not just students and teachers, it has become family. This Nana and Pops is blessed to be part of that family and TWDT.
The world of dance and talent truly is an exceptional dance studio. My daughter's journey with them, starting at age 3 and continuing now at 8, has been nothing short of amazing. The teachers are incredibly patient, encouraging, and consistently create a joyful atmosphere in every class. Regardless of a dancer's experience level, The World of Dance and Talent provides a welcoming space for everyone. From the moment you walk in, you are enveloped in a warm, family-like environment. The directors are outstanding, always offering support and readily addressing any queries. I wholeheartedly recommend this studio to anyone passionate about dance.
Keep in mind, i danced my entire life. My mother was awarded "Dance mom extraordinaire" by our childhood studio for 26 years of dance mom service. I am NO stranger to recitals. My own daughter, while only 6, has had 2 recitals with a different studio that we LOVED, but we moved and looked for a studio closer. There are much better studios to go to. We will NOT be back. Didn't check your email. This studio owner says, "Too bad!" Ask a question, and the response you get is "There has already been an email about this." Then proceeds to answer. They can't post a sign on the door or even announce a reminder after class because that's too much work, I guess. For recital, be prepared for an extra $50 service charge for tickets. Tickets are $20 a piece, which is typical, but then there's a $50 service charge because they use ticketmaster. Unless you want to drive ALL the way downtown while you have to work. Want your "free" tickets as the parents? Gotta buy a $25 recital t shirt you didn't ask for, non-optional. Want the DVD? Another $50! Our last studio gave it to us for free, delivered straight to our door. You could go see an actual movie for that cost. We missed dance photos because I missed the email, and again, they can't put a reminder on the door, like our last studio did. Recital is downtown, and they don't validate parking for rehearsal, so you pay for parking TWICE. But the nail in the coffin, throughout the ENTIRE show, parents are required to go to the back to change your child. 1 parent per child. Imagine the number of times your elderly parents and your grandparents will have to stand and sit to let parents in and out. Then, my daughter only had 2 dances between hers, so you better run so you can get back to see the actual dance that you paid $115 for 3 tickets for! During classes, the waiting room is dark and HOT! It's like they're having an electrical issue and an A/C issue, and after all these additional fees, you'd think they would have it fixed. But, no. We didn't experience ANY of this at our last studio, I will happily make the trek to them next year to avoid this mess.
My daughter came to The World of Dance and Talent after being at a dance studio for 15 years. It was a scary transition for her coming to a new place with new faces. We were welcomed with open arms! Not only by owners, but all the dancers and their families. Very happy about our choice in trying something new!
