Me and my 6-month-old Bernedoodle puppy just finished Jen's 6-week basic obedience class. It was extremely helpful, not only in helping me be a better leader for my puppy but it was also incredibly helpful for my dog to be around other dogs (some quite reactive) outdoors and learn how to settle him in a realistic, yet controlled environment. Given that my boy has just entered his tricky "teenager" stage, I've had a few moments of panic that he is turning into an aggressive and reactive dog. Jen took the time over the holidays to chat with me on the phone and reassure me that his current behaviour is normal, she gave me tips to help manage his unique issues, and she encouraged me to keep working with him on everything learned in class. I am forever grateful for Jen's patience, reassurance and guidance. Both me and my dog loved her class and plan to attend the next level soon!
Jennifer is a force to reckon with in the world of dog obedience and training. When we got our first puppy, Nashville, just 3 months ago, I was a complete disaster. I almost gave up so many times, but Jen kept showing us week after week just how much repetition and perseverence it takes to raise a well trained dog from a puppy. There were a few stubborn dogs in my class that Jennifer transformed in front of our eyes in just a course of 6 sessions. One of those dogs is still in my class today and you really have to wonder if it is really the same dog or if they just swapped it for a look alike...lol. To be honest, we did shop around at first for dog trainers but quickly learned that Jen is top tier and well respected in this trade. I would caution on hiring just any dog trainer without research as we found a few that would have made our puppy worse with bad habits. One dog trainer told us that it's okay to let our puppy sniff around and lead the walk as long as it's not in danger. And letting our puppy go up to other dogs in the park is acceptable "especially if it's like a golden retriever that looks friendly." Yikes. Then, when our dog started digging holes in the park and we tried to correct it, the trainer said, "oh no, that's okay. Digging is normal too." Who wants holes in their yard?? I am feeling so blessed that we found Jen. We went from zero training to a perfectly crate-trained puppy (almost 0 barking—maybe 1 or 2 barks per week) that can sit, lie down, and stay while we toss treats near her. We are still working on leash walking and heel but as Jen tells us, that will all come with time and repetition.
Jennifer has made the journey of being a first time puppy mom a whole lot easier. She has given Jack and myself so much confidence in navigating the puppy phase; training; food; exercise; structure and routine and has enhanced our relationship tenfold. We have completed puppy class, basic obedience and are currently busy with intermediate obedience. Each lesson builds on each other which I love! Jennifer is a wealth of knowledge and lives her brand! I can highly recommend Top Dog Canine Training for anyone navigating owning a dog! It is remarkable to witness Jack's and other dog's progress throughout the duration of the classes. We will continue with Jennifer until she has run out of classes to offer!
We've had an amazing experience with Jennifer at Top Dog Canine. We started our little cockapoo puppy in Puppy Kindergarten at 11 weeks old and he is now 6 months and taking his 3rd course because our puppy loves her and she does an amazing job. She is super knowledgeable. You can see her experience with dogs the moment she handles a dog that an owner is having difficulty with. Dogs automatically respond to her. Jen's techniques and teaching style are so useful, consistent and fun. I also like that the classes are outdoors. Even outside of class, Jen is very responsive anytime we have a question whether by email, phone or text. She's helped us so much with advice on being a first-time puppy parent from nutrition, grooming, vaccines, food, toys, equipment, etc. She even trimmed his nails to teach us, and I contacted her for advice the first time my pup was not feeling well. She is super knowledgeable. I highly recommend Top Dog Canine Training to anyone with a dog and we plan to take more classes. We have 1 friend who loves and goes to her classes too and recommended another pup about to start kindergarten there. Thanks Jen!
