Spoiled by our first dog experience, we adopted a new puppy (Petra) that proved to be quite the handful. As much as I hoped for a quick fix, John taught us that the solution wasn’t a magical formula, but understanding and raising our new family member for a lifetime. He has worked with us extensively, and has helped us navigate several twists and turns (including severe anxiety when she was away from us). The entire journey he has adapted to what Petra needed, and he continues to work with us as we watch her make steady incremental improvements. He probably teaches us more than he teaches her since we are usually the ones messing up! Overall, if you want a trainer who truly cares about the relationship between you and your dog, we highly recommend John.
I have nothing but positive things to say about John and our experience working with him over the past several months. My wife and I are first time dog owners, and thanks to John we are both confident and competent in our approach to raising our now one-year-old English Shepherd. We've done both one-on-one training sessions with John, as well sending our pup for a 3-week "board and train" with John. We are incredibly happy with Archie's progress behaviorally and are thankful for John's patience along the way. John is incredibly generous with his time and is always willing to help troubleshoot a problem that comes up. He is also just a good person. In short, I highly, highly recommend having John work with you and your dog.
Training with Top Dog was worth every bit of time, energy and money. My two mini aussies would bark, chase, herd, etc but when one nipped a friend’s little boy, I knew it was time for formal training. Even after training, they still WANT to act like their old selves. I can see them perk up at passerby’s, but then they immediately turn their attention to me instead of barking and running to the end of their leash. It takes continuous work, but John gives very clear instructional lessons and is willing to go the extra mile for training, such as meet at a dog park! And all lessons are positive and fun! Our family camping trips are so much more enjoyable with well-behaved dogs. I couldn’t have accomplished a serene outing without the training that my dogs (and I) received from John.
Working with John was a real pleasure and an education. John is very knowledgeable in training not only your dog but their owners as well. We had never trained a puppy and John was very patient, knowledgeable, and provided many techniques in having a good experience with our puppy. I would highly recommend John in training your pet
I highly recommend Top Dog! I'd give it 10 stars if I could. John is great to work with! His training techniques are all about positive reinforcement, instead of punishment and intimidation used by so many dog trainers. My puppy, Ryder, just turned 5 months old and people are always surprised when they learn how young he is because he's so well behaved. Ryder and I actually enjoy "working" together. I first heard of Top Dog when my daughter took her dog, Lincoln, for training 2 years ago. When it says "training for the life of your dog", it means it. We still call with questions about Lincoln and John is always generous with his time and expertise. Top Dog is well worth the investment in your dog!
