Really like this bookstore—progressive, Black, intentional! But do NOT order bulk from them over the phone because things get messy really fast: Placed the order December 5, then called on December 23 to follow up to which they said it should be a few more days, then called again on December 31 because I hadn’t heard back only for them to say the books *could* be in the boxes in the back but were unable to check. I needed these books by January 4 and thought a month would be ample time; I thought wrong. When I asked them what I should do, the store rep told me it’d be best to order elsewhere. What in the world. Great to shop in-store—highly recommend, even! But save yourself the headache and stay far away when ordering with them.
I was headed to Strapping Store for Small Business Saturday and saw that Underground Books was only a block away. I've heard of Underground Books through the local network of independent bookstores in the Sacramento area. Supporting local businesses is extremely important. Underground Books has a good variety of books, merchandise, gifts and personal care items, & snacks, and friendly, knowledgeable, helpful staff. This is a great place to find books for ethnic studies with a particular focus on black authors and history
Wonderful finds. The staff are extremely friendly. Books for all ages and interest.
Fascinating books about history, perfect for ethnic study students. There is a wide array of children’s books which are inclusive to all. The overall atmosphere was very welcoming and I would recommend the book “Is Marriage For White People”
This was my first time coming to underground books. This was for a private event . The bookstore is wonderful with a amazing variety/selection of books along with comfortable seating. It is neat and well organized and had plenty of holiday decor and books on display for the season. I will definitely be back to peruse the shelves since I love reading. If you are a person who likes/loves to read and like being able to turn a page or use a bookmark you'll enjoy this bookstore.
