Bri’s hip hop class >>>> Vega stays making my Step Up delusions a reality. Vibes/energy stay 10/10
I’m writing this review to document an extremely unprofessional and humiliating experience at Vega Dance Lab. I attended a class to support a friend who has a disability and is autistic, and who experiences severe anxiety. I had been there before on multiple occasions to support her without any issues, the only difference was that most of those times were with other instructors. Before this class began, we checked with the front desk and asked if it was okay for us to sit quietly in the back to support her, and we were told that this was fine. We sat quietly at the back of the room and did not disrupt the class in any way. During the class, Evie stopped teaching, singled us out, and publicly called us “perverts,” along with other demeaning and inappropriate names, in front of everyone. This was done loudly and in the middle of class, with no attempt to address any concern privately or professionally. Instead, she chose public confrontation and humiliation. The interaction was mean-spirited, unnecessary, and completely inappropriate. Regardless of any misunderstanding, calling guests “perverts” and using other demeaning language — especially after permission had already been given by the front desk, and when they are there to support someone with a disability — is unacceptable behavior, particularly coming from the owner of the studio. The way this was handled felt like a misuse of authority and a clear power trip rather than professionalism or leadership. The front desk staff was polite and other instructors were as well, but Evie represents the studio, and her behavior created a hostile and embarrassing environment. This was the first time anything like this had happened, and I have not returned since, I cant justify supporting a business with an owner like this. I left feeling humiliated and disrespected. There is not a single person that I would recommend coming to this dance studio, Evie is not inclusive or accommodating to anyone but herself and her own ego, she is the owner and she will definitely let you know it if not feel it.
The dance party hustle class where you follow along with the instructor was super welcoming and fun for a newbie like me, and a great workout to boot. Thank you Sidnie!!
We recently attended our first show at Vega — a burlesque production called Fable — which reimagines the stories of beloved childhood characters, taking them "off script" and into real life. From the moment you walk through the door into the performance space (a dance studio), you're greeted by friendly faces and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. There's a drinks and concessions stand open before the show and during intermission; I noticed they offered food as well, although I didn’t check it out closely. The performers and dancers were absolutely incredible, and the energy from the audience was electric, with engagement happening both onstage and in the aisles. There are flashing lights throughout the show (something to keep in mind for those sensitive to them), but overall, it’s a fantastic venue — one I’m definitely looking forward to visiting again.
I have taken 3 Burly Q classes here with Evie with zero dance experience and they have not been at all what I expected! I am a highly anxious person who thought that taking a class to feel sexy and empowered would be good for me. I was not expecting such a fast paced class full of incredible talent and real no bullsh*t teaching style. I absolutely love it, and feel like it’s what I’ve been missing in this city. The intensity of the class inspires me to work harder and practice more than if I had just jumped into something that made me look/feel awesome right away. There wouldn’t be much to learn if that was the case. I also love the way Evie handles the class and her assertive energy. 3 classes flailing around and yet I’m already acting more assertive in my every day life. 10/10, love the studio so far.
