I contacted Judy after two close but unsuccessful attempts at the DC bar exam, upon recommendation from a friend who successfully passed the bar on her second attempt after taking Judy’s class. I used Themis the first two times. Working with Judy truly changed my life. She equips her students with the tools needed to successfully tackle this behemoth of an exam, emphasizing the importance of both substance and format. She has an immense knowledge not only about the law, but also how this exam is designed and what the examiners expect. Judy creates a customized schedule for each of her students to accommodate life’s other commitments. She is an extremely prompt communicator, and no question is too big or too small to send her throughout the process. She manages to pack a ton of information into each session in a succinct, accessible way with a good sense of humor and clear explanations. She ensures you’re not just memorizing the information, but truly understanding it. Most importantly, Judy cares deeply about each and every one of her students on an individual basis. She expects a lot from her students and is tough, but also fair and attentive. For those who didn’t find a good fit in the commercial bar prep courses or those who struggle with standardized testing, I highly recommend Judy’s class. Judy Vincent-Pope is an excellent bar exam tutor, and deserves all the hyperbolic praise one could dish out. Judy's generosity as an instructor and her kind demeanor are well-balanced with intellectual rigor and frankness about the realities of the bar exam. She will answer any and all questions, no matter how obscure, and offers individualized guidance on time- and anxiety-management. She held my study group to a high standard, and for me it made all the difference in the world. I needed to raise my score by four points, but following Judy's method brought me up by sixteen. I passed in my jurisdiction with room to spare. Those results speak for themselves. Judy's reflections and guidance on professionalism and ethics in the actual practice of law were an unexpected benefit of the tutoring sessions. She is a practicing attorney herself, so she knows whereof she speaks. Her occasional guidance on legal practice was extremely helpful to me, because it connected the arcane minutiae of black-letter legal doctrine (some of which does not seem to reflect real life) to the practical aspects of the legal profession. I had previously purchased a commercial bar prep program, but I found that Judy's approach was more effective by leaps and bounds. She is gifted not only as an attorney, but as a teacher, and she is extremely practical in her approach--I think this is what makes Judy stand out from others in this field. Before finding Judy, I failed the bar exam three times. I tried a combination of three different commercial courses along with self-studying and still found myself falling short each time. With Judy’s help, I managed to increase my previous score by 23 points, which was more than enough to pass in my jurisdiction.
