I’m writing this review almost 6 months after visiting so that should say something about how I’m still thinking about this place… the Queen of Sheba was one of the best desserts I’ve ever had. Ever. In my whole life. (And I’ve had a lot of desserts.) I also recommend the shakshuka pastry (I think that’s what it was?) and chicory coffee (I *think* it was pretty sweet though, FYI). Can’t remember the name of the person who was working while I was there but I really appreciated his kindness and friendliness. Loved this place so much I came back a second time in my short trip to Detroit :)
Nice spot, friendly service, shaded outdoor seating. The shawarma roll was very tasty. The mushroom pastry was crisp but a little lacking in flavor. The filling in the plum turnover wasn't my favorite but, again, the pastry was good. Overall , a solid choice. I would definitely come back to try other items.
I can see why it won James Beard award. The sweets and baked goods are very unique compare to other pastry shop/cafe. I like the little Financiers, they have little gritty texture but moist and light. it goes well with coffee. Bread is nice too, it is freshly baked and soft. For parking, just park on the street. It is free.
Their mango cheesecake is a must try! Chic interior and great vibe. Coffee was alright but all the bakery items were awesome, especially the mango cheesecake.
Came in on a Saturday morning and were greeted immediately by the sweet ladies at the counter. We ordered the garlic quiche slice, spinach coca pastry, baklava latte, and the cardamom rose latte. The pastries were OK. You can tell they are homemade and from scratch which is the best part but the spinach pastry only tasted like spinach (which is fair) and the quiche was very very rich and wet/moist but a little too much. Our lattes were delicious and the syrups are made in-house, too. You can purchase a bottle of their vanilla bean syrup and cardamom rose syrup to take home which is super neat. The atmosphere is lovely with outdoor patio chairs and tables, as well.
