Its a nice hotel, just not for me. Too much sunlight and no curtains to block off the sun. I like it dark. No A/C, I get hot easily. But staff brought me a fan, which i appreciated. TV is kind of old but not ancient..., mine barely worked. Thank god i always bring my own hdmi cable. I saw the pictures online before booking, and i had my doubts, but the very good reviews made me try it out. I would recommend this hotel to someone who likes old/vintage stuff.

Great location, lovely staff, nice continental breakfast and wine and nibbles hour. Rooms were spacious and very comfortable. Not sure how the temperature would be on a hot autumn day but we stayed in January and were very comfortable, loved the fireplace. Great value for San Francisco.

Loved my stay. The free wine and nibbles was so nice. Good breakfast too. Loved the fireplace and had it on the whole time. Took a nice long hot bath and never ran out of hot water. Will definitely come back.

This is a lovely place and the service and attention to detail where perfect. The breakfast was wonderful for a not-hot breakfast, plenty filling even for those who don't like sweets. The evening wine etc. is generous with sweet attentiveness. For this price, I would never have expected the luxury of the room, linens, fireplace, etc., I would go back in a heartbeat, even if it weren't the least expensive lovely option I've ever found in San Francisco. I have no complaints at all. And following is just for information: This is an old building and accessibility isn't perfect because that's how old buildings work when they haven't been turned into huge expensive hotels. It's a genuine early Otis elevator, a little hard to manage with my crutches, and I would not go there in a wheelchair. Again, no complaints. The British-ness is a cute image, and goes only so far as the name, the flag outside, and the no shelf in the bathroom ;-). Teabags and half-and-half pods only (except at breakfast). Again, I have NO complaints. Street parking can be impossible, which is just a fact of the city and the neighborhood, and the valet overnight cost almost as much as the room.

Fantastic experience. I was hoping for some quality time with my teenage kids, and we really enjoyed staying at the White Swan Inn, complete with an elevator with gates and an excellent breakfast! We had a suite with a fireplace that turned on with a switch. We would have happily stayed in watching movies but we were there to see a show and shop at Union Square. A great and unique experience.
