First and foremost if you’re going to the gym casually or for the “flex” of being a member at an expensive place, just use your home gym. There are a lot of negative reviews of the this place and honestly it sounds more like they’re trying to avoid the fact they can’t commit to working out. This place is not equinox or club 300 and it is not trying to be. For those who are serious about their fitness, know the basics and are COMMITTED. This place is a diamond in the rough. Machine wise, they don’t have a lot but they do have EVERYTHING you need for body sculpting. Hence why you do need some basic knowledge of bodybuilding and technique. Those who know, know machines are like training wheels. As for cleanliness and upkeep. 1) the building has character. It’s old and has a lot of charm. 2) The staff do a great job of keeping it clean. Members ALSO have the responsibility of helping. Such as re-racking weights and WIPING after use (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE) Just be real, gyms are for sweating. Yes, there will be smells and yes it’s gross, GROW UP. On to staff. Really they are the stars of the show. It’s a small gym and for the number of folks working at any given time they are GREAT. Always friendly and attentive. They also have to deal with whiny jerks and cleaning up after slobs. I commend them for being so cheerful in spite of all that. Augusto is especially fantastic and just a generally great person. I’ve been a member at the other chain gyms around Bayonne and JC and honestly I get a better workout here. It’s not so overly crowded and the people are nice enough when it comes to sharing. All in all I highly recommend this place to people serious about making changes to their health and lifestyle. This place really is perfect for achieving your strength goals. But if you’re a casual gym goer or you need some gimmick routine like aerobic dancing (not knocking it, some need to hide the working out aspect with something fun) then look for a different gym. This place will give back what you put into it. So for the dedicated this is the place.
