Beautiful place but make sure you don't try to enter through the pedestrian gate on the back. They require an entry fee and you pay at the vehicle entrance. It's a very large area, so if you have a small child bring a stroller or carrier. They added some new musical experiences for children since last year.
Stunning gardens! You can get tickets online or at the gate, $8 for visitors and $6 for locals, veterans discount as well as Museums for All with SNAP/EBT. On a normal visit I’ll spend around 1.5 to 2 hours here, but if I bring a book I’ll be here all day!! Picturesque, cozy, something new to find every visit. The staff is amazing, very helpful - I love asking what their favorite part of the garden is because everyone has different answers and you’ll learn different things about each garden (fossils found here, Taniguchi spending 18 months on the Japanese Garden, a lotus from Japan on site). Friendly for all ages - for strollers or wheel chairs there is an ADA trail. They offer events like yoga or garden club meetings and have fun days like Dino days or dog days! Dogs allowed on leash. They do accept and offer reciprocal membership to botanical gardens thru AHS network. It is small-medium but has a lot of character and heart and you can tell the curator and team put a lot of work into maintaining such a beautiful space. Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable ensuring it feels like a welcoming community space!
A quiet, well maintained small botanical gardens that has some big surprises! Not your everyday experience. Bring your camera, your sketch pad or just a book. Plenty of places to sit and think, or even get married. The grounds are gorgeous and varied. It’s a treat to see.
Stopped into the botanical gardens while I was in the area. With it being November, of course there wasn't a lot of plants in bloom but it was still a pleasant exploration of the grounds. Several koi ponds and a large Japanese garden. I loved the winding and narrow paths. There was a bird lookout, a children's garden, butterfly garden, herb garden, rose garden and an escarpment trail that meandered through the woods. The old schoolhouse and blacksmith buildings were interesting to see, although you can't go inside. Plenty of shady areas and areas to sit. There were several people having professional photo shoots on the grounds. Cute little gift shop and restrooms easily accessible. My personal favorite was the prehistoric garden, it even included a dinosaur statue. The parking lot wasn't massive but seemed able to accommodate the weekend crowd. Zilker is a member of the American Horticultural Society - participating members get in for free.
