Become a Fort Smith BARK Ranger
Fort Smith National Historic Site
Complete the Fort Smith BARK Ranger booklet so your pet can become an official BARK Ranger!
Fort Smith National Historic Site is a pet-friendly park! Visitors are welcome to take their dogs with them while exploring the park trails and grounds, as long as they follow the BARK Ranger rules: B is for Bag your pet's waste. Bag dispensers and trash bins can be found along the walking trails. A is for Always use a leash. Keeping your dog on a leash helps protect them and others. R is for Respect wildlife. Keep an eye out for snakes, fire ants, and stinging insects. Remember that squirrels and birds also like to be left alone! K is for Know where you can go. While pets are welcome outside, only service animals are allowed inside the visitor center. Bonus tip: Plan for the heat! If you're hot, they're hot! Be sure to bring enough water for both you and your pet. And remember, sidewalks can be hot, so test the pavement with the back of your hand to see if it's too hot for your pet's paws. Pick up a Fort Smith BARK Ranger booklet at the visitor center, complete the activities, and bring it back to a ranger or volunteer at the front desk. BARK Rangers will receive a signed certificate and an official Fort Smith BARK Ranger dog tag!
