Went to The Hair Room for the first time and was beyond pleased! From the moment you walk in, the space feels amazing—such a fun and welcoming vibe. I had the pleasure of getting my hair cut by the incredibly talented Sofia, and it was a 10/10 experience. She not only gave me a great cut but also walked me through how to achieve the perfect curls—from the products she used to styling tips. I left feeling so happy with my hair!
I had an amazing experience at The Hair Room Salon. As someone with very curly hair, it's always been hard to find a stylist who truly understands my texture — but Jahaira did an incredible job. I came in feeling nervous, wanting a wolf cut, and left feeling beautiful and confident. My curls looked better than ever! Thanks to Jahaira’s knowledge, skill, and care, I was able to see the true potential of my hair. The salon itself has a cozy, fun retro vibe — even the little details, like vintage movie cases, make it feel special. Everyone was warm and welcoming, and the product recommendations worked wonders for my hair. After months of damage from chemical treatments, it finally felt soft, defined, and healthy again. I'm so happy I found this place. Highly recommend it — especially for anyone with curly hair. Thank you, Jahaira — you work magic! 🎶 Walked in nervous, walked out like an 80s rockstar. 🤘🔥
I’ve been debating on leaving this review since most of my experiences coming to this salon for the last 6 years has been nothing but great. The salon itself is super cute painted in hot pink, Dolly Parton themed and just overall welcoming. I’ve been loyally seeing Collie for haircuts since she’s a genius when it comes cutting thick hair. Unfortunately, Collie has moved to another state and upon setting an appointment with the front desk, they set me up with Anatalie. The salon asks for clients to fill out a form prior to the appointment in which one of the questions asks for an inspo pic (see below). I also want to note it takes me an hour to commute to downtown jersey from Brooklyn where I live now. The salon is empty and it’s just me and Anatalie. She informs me that most of the stylist are gone summer Fridays and that she’s covering for some of them. During our conversation, I find out that she’s actually the owner of the salon and that she’s not usually behind the chair. We have a great conversation, she’s very down to earth, very likable, and very easy to talk to. I showed her the inspo pic before she started cutting, and I also told her that I included it in the form. Im requesting for a long shag with a 2 inch trim for any split ends. At this point, it’s almost over two hours that I’ve been sitting in her chair and now she’s rushing to finish the trim post blow dry because her last client is waiting. I think we’ve all been there where we’re sitting in the chair and we see ourselves in the mirror and it’s not looking like the inspo pic but we’re hoping its because it’s not styled how you would do it at home. At this point, I’m not trying to be negative but Anatalie tells me that “if I see anything that looks off or needs to be trimmed more, to call in for another appointment” to which is a alarming especially since she knows that I don’t live nearby. When I get home, I brush my fingers through my hair and I feel that the ends of my hair were absolutely not debulked. It looks like a block of hair straight across. My layers were completely uneven; one side of my hair was thinned out way more than the other side. My right curtain bang was cut in too deep so it goes past my ear. She also cut much more than the 2 inches I requested. I texted the next day to see if I can get another stylist to fix it since it doesn’t seem like she is familiar with cutting thick hair or possibly it’s been too long since she’s been behind the chair. I was told that it has to be her as there are no refunds offered. I paid about $165 with tip total. I did go to another salon and paid over $100 to get it fixed but the length of my hair was compromised and there are areas like my curtain bangs that can’t be fixed since hair is missing. I wish Anatalie was straightforward and could’ve told me that a shag is out of her expertise and that if I come back another day, someone else could’ve attended me. And although a refund isn’t going to grow my hair out, it would’ve been nice to have that to cover going to another salon.
I was really excited to try this place since my hair colorist moved out of the country. I came in for COLOR CORRECTION. My hair is short and dark, but I’ve gone full platinum in one sitting with an experienced colorist. And that’s when my hair was past my shoulder. I went for a consultation at first, to make sure the process was feasible. I understand my hair is dark and some hair colorist are not comfortable with the process. But when I went for my consultation, the hair colorist said it was feasible, that my hair is strong enough. I always valued their opinion since they are the experts. Bleaching can do a lot of damage and it’s always good to be on the safe side. In this case, I booked my appointment. It took 6 hours and $600 later, I ended up with banding and blotchy toning. As you can see on the photos below. I was just happy that I got out of there with my hair fully intact. I’m not the type to cause a scene or disrespect anyone, hence why I’m just now speaking about this. Money was not an issue, but you have to be able to deliver. This was really disappointing. She was nice enough to ask me to come back, so she can tone the hair again. But I just decided not to take her up on it.
Great trim job done by Lorelei, she takes her time and really gets to know your hair before she touches it! I have a particular hairstyle and she nailed it! Great vibe and best experience I’ve had at a salon as a masculine presenting woman. I will add though this is not a barber shop they don’t use a razor and mostly comb over scissor work. But overall 9/10
