I genuinely cannot recommend this gym and, specifically Lucy, enough. I started going to Lucy for PT around a year ago. I’ve always struggled with weight loss and only ever associated exercising with trying to lose weight. After a couple of a bad experiences with other PTs (in different gyms, not here) trying to focus only on weight loss I went to Lucy with a simple mission, can she help me to enjoy the gym and want to go. Mission accomplished. I now regularly go to the gym both for PT and classes and really enjoy it. First time in my life that a gym membership hasn’t just been wasted after 3 months and gets regular use. Thanks so much to everyone at village gym and particularly to Lucy.

Five stars for my fantastic Personal Trainer, Lucy Coughlin. Lucy has helped me transform my body and my lifestyle over the last twelve months. Two stone lost, muscle built and healthy eating habits embedded. Lucy is professional, reliable and always supportive. In short, she’s a star! 🌟

I have been a member of your gym since 2022 and currently pay for a family membership for myself and my children. My children have also been attending swimming lessons at your facility since 2022. When we first joined, the pool and facilities were well maintained, and I regularly recommended the gym to other families. However, over time I have seen a significant deterioration in standards. Over the past year in particular, the condition of the facilities has become unacceptable. The family swimming changing rooms are not cleaned or checked regularly. There is no visible cleaning or inspection log to show routine checks of the toilets or changing areas. There is only one hairdryer in the family changing room, which is frequently broken or cuts out due to overheating. There are only five family changing cubicles, which often results in long waits for families with young children. Additionally, the swimming pool temperature has noticeably dropped and is increasingly cold, which is especially concerning during the winter season. This past weekend was particularly unacceptable. The single toilet in the family changing area was either not working or had become locked. Although I raised this with a lifeguard, I was told someone was inside, despite repeated knocking over a long period of time with no response. It was clear that no one was inside and that the door was locked or faulty. As a result, I had no option but to leave my eldest child with the lifeguards, as he is seven years old and not suitable to enter the ladies’ changing room alone, while I took myself and my youngest child into the ladies’ changing room. Unfortunately, the two toilets within the ladies’ changing room were also not working. The only functioning ladies’ toilets were located outside the changing room corridor, which was not appropriate given that we had no shoes on and were in our swimming clothing. After our swimming session, I attempted to use the outside corridor ladies’ toilets and found that all four cubicles had no toilet paper. This clearly indicates that no staff member had checked or maintained these toilets, despite it being peak time on a Friday afternoon with gym members and swimming lesson families all relying on the same facilities. We pay approximately £90 per month for our membership, yet basic standards such as heating, cleanliness, hygiene, and facility maintenance are not being met. This is extremely disappointing. I raised these concerns with staff on Friday and requested a response from management, as management was not available at the time. It is now Monday evening, and I have received no communication or acknowledgment. I would appreciate a prompt response addressing these concerns and outlining what steps will be taken to improve standards moving forward.

The facilities at Village Gym are quite good. The equipment is well maintained, and there is a wide range of cardio and weight machines. The gym has two strength and free weights areas, good fitness classes, an excellent spin studio, and a large pool that usually has lanes open. The sauna is small, and the lower benches sometimes get moisture damage, although they do get replaced. The steam room is generally fine, but the area where your back rests can feel a bit slimy. The cool dip pool is great, and there’s an outdoor gym area, although I’ve never seen anyone using it. The showers work, but they could definitely use some attention. Some locks don’t work properly, some shelving is loose or tilted, and there’s noticeable wear and tear in some cubicles. The everyday staff are consistently friendly, welcoming, and helpful. I’ve always had a good experience with them. Where the gym falls short is in administration and communication regarding policies. When I joined, I was told off-peak access was until 5 pm, but in reality, your pass stops working at 4:30. This means you need to ask staff to let you in manually, which wasn’t explained upfront and can feel awkward. To be fair, the off-peak package is good overall, especially with unrestricted access on weekends, but the weekday cut-off should be clearly explained. The complimentary guest passes were also disappointing. They come with restrictions that aren’t made clear at the start. Guests receive membership sales calls afterward without having given permission. This makes the passes feel more like a sales tool than a genuine perk. Overall, it’s a strong gym with solid facilities and excellent staff. However, clearer communication, more transparent policies, and some attention to the changing rooms would significantly improve the member experience.

I’ve been regularly going to this gym for around 3 years now and for the committed gym goer it offers excellent value. It has great facilities which receive investment and further development. The on site pool and spa provide welcome relaxation and “me time” after a good workout in one of the many excellent fitness classes. There are a range of special events put on throughout the year which have more of a social focus and help to build a real sense of community. The instructors are top class, the location is convenient and vibe is nice. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending.
