Behind the Scenes tour of Alcatraz with guide Steve was excellent. Easily the best historical tour I’ve ever done. Super engaging and left wanting to learn more. Highly recommend! Worth the additional time and cost. Was phenomenal! He was wearing an actual original guard’s uniform! Left wanting to learn more! The history is so much more robust than just the story of the federal penitentiary .
Loved this! We had so much fun! Beautiful cruise over to the island . Tickets were easy to purchase and use. Such an eerie feeling being in the prison. The tour was well put together. Memories that will last a lifetime.
The ferry ride takes about 10-15 minutes. You get great views of the island and the city. Alcatraz Island was a great experience and I highly recommend for anyone in the area. I was hoping more of the buildings with be available to tour but that may be an option on the more expensive ticket. Overall, it was very cool seeing this part of history. Plenty of information to take in during the audio tour of the cell house. Plenty of great views and pics too.
Very well done. The purchasing process was easy, there are signs and staff directing you where to go, the ride over the water was very enjoyable and pleasant. You get to see the city, the island, the Golden Gate Bridge and Bay bridge. There is food available to purchase on the boat, as well as seating and viewing platforms. The views are amazing and the time on Alcatraz was spectacular. Highly recommend.
Your boat leaves every half hour and you have to be on time as they all leave on time. If you want to get a seat on the top level you will need to line up basically as the boat before leaves. The boat ride takes about 10 minutes and views around the boat of the bay are spectacular in all directions. Once on the island a park ranger will explain the rules and set you on your way. The main cell house includes an audio tour which will guide you through all the rooms and give you an excellent account of how things were during the operation of the prison. You can leave on any boat so take as much time on the island as you like. Overall I found the tour to be quite enjoyable and I would recommend to anybody visiting the area, especially considering it’s so reasonably priced. I highly recommend wearing quite warm clothing as some areas aren’t protected so sea breezes can make it quite chilly.
