Ancil Hoffman Golf Course, designed by renowned architect William Bell, offers a challenging and scenic 18-hole championship layout nestled along the American River in Carmichael. This public course features mature trees, abundant wildlife, and a peaceful natural setting, providing a rigorous test for intermediate to advanced golfers. With a 4.5-star rating, it includes amenities like the Main Event Bar and Grill, golf cart rentals, and access to walking trails, making it a premier destination for golf enthusiasts and nature lovers in the Sacramento area.
Money to buy unnecessary new carts, but not for shoe spike cleaners at ANY of the tee box areas. All the employees I talked to state the same thing: it's a Sacramento County decision to buy anything. Mather has them, Cherry Island has them. Why not Ancil? Use the 'holiday rate' money from Black Friday, a non-holiday for most working people. Not even the cashiers at the course get paid a 'holiday' rate on this pseudo holiday. County penny pinching thieves at their finest. The old carts worked fine; a waste of taxpayer money.
Torrey Pines golf course designer William Bell designed Ancil Hoffman. Long, difficult yet fair golf course, Ancil Hoffman can add 3-5 shots compared to other courses and if you can master this course, you can play well anywhere. Nestled along fertile soul from the American River, you will be amazed at all the beautiful mature trees. Enjoy the wildlife while this mind psyop of a layout brings you to your knees. The crowd here is definitely not upper class country club and play can be slow as profit squeezes tee off groups every 8 minutes. The course seems to always be booked and being difficult adds to slow play. Beginners should stay clear from this course. The vibe is overall not open arms to finding a playing companion as after six years looking, everyone is a bit standoffs and competitive egos abound. A little pricey to be traumatized, terrified and humiliated as this course has that reputation
Many leave comments and reviews about the course... which is fantastic! However, I would like to point out how great the food is. I come here just for lunch!🤩
It is a large area that is part natural, part park and partially a golf course. It's a beautiful setting for golf, but I have never played there. Actually I just go there to walk along the river or walk my dog. It's beautiful! Although being on a golf course you may occasionally encounter loud lawn mowers, which kind of destroyed the end of my peaceful walk today. You can also visit the Effie Yeaw nature center and walk around the beautiful natural area there. You may get lucky and see some deer or a group of turkeys basking in the sun. But dogs aren't allowed in that portion of the park. If you get hungry, you may want to visit the "Main Event Bar and Grill." I haven't gone there yet, but I plan on giving it a try. Eating with a view of a beautiful golf course should be quite nice! Apparently their hours vary and you should give them a call.
The Ancil Hoffman Golf Course in Carmichael, California is in a beautiful location. It borders the American River, so big trees and natural foliage line the fairways, providing plenty of shade on sunny days, and wildlife sightings, like deer and squirrels are a common occurrence. The scenic environment makes for a very peaceful setting to enjoy a round of golf. A major advantage is its convenient location for myself and many in the Carmichael and Sacramento area, making it easily accessible to many golfers. However, this accessibility can lead to some downsides. Tee times can be limited at peak times, making it more difficult to book a slot, but if you make the drive and can’t get on right away, there are some nice walking trails down to the the river and almost nothing beats watching your worries wash away with the flow of a river. In summary, I really like the Ancil Hoffman Golf Course, not only for the pleasant golfing environment and convenient location, but for the feeling of spending an afternoon in the woods and by the river. I recommend it!
