Antigone is largely a female-based book and gift store but I always stop in whenever I’m on 4th Avenue. Some of the book racks are stocked with titles that interest me too. Nice store with aisles that are to easy to maneuver. I like it.
I really enjoy this bookstore. I have visited multiple times when visiting AZ from NJ. Stopped in this past weekend and grabbed a couple of books, one of which written by one of my favorite podcasters and for some reason I have not been able to find the book at mainstream bookstores on the east coast. The staff has always been incredibly nice to my friends and I and I look forward to visiting again next time I am in Tucson.
I was excited to visit, having heard good things. I liked their book collections and staff picks. However, I was taken aback by the rude staff, it seems like other reviewers have had similar experiences. The girls stared/glared at me without a smile or greeting, while they smiled at all other folks that walked in, and as I was trying to buy a book I walked by the counter to hear an audible "ew" from one of the girls behind the counter and she was looking straight at me. I really don't know what I did, but I left without buying anything.
My personal favorite book store, the atmosphere is very cozy, and as expected it's very quiet. There is always a interesting selection of books to browse as well as more local provisions such as the pottery, which is beautifully glazed and respectfully priced. This is the kind of place you go to for yourself or for the quiet companionship of your peers/partner. Service is friendly as well as helpfull (check the notes placed into their recommended books!) If you enjoy peace in the city and losing yourself in the words upon a page in a safe and welcoming environment then this is the place for you. Also you might see the cat, the presence of which is more than enough to justify 5 stars :P
This is not just a bookstore because of the variety of products that they have to offer. Definitely lots of great books but also T-shirts, mugs, etc. the staff is great too. 👍😎
